Kindle colorsoft - is anyone planning on getting one?

Sadly my 8 year old kindle has just given up and I can no longer charge it. I'm desperate for a new one and have just spotted on Amazon that they're releasing a colour version called the colorsoft. I love the idea of seeing the titles in colour but I'm not sure it's worth the extra cost. Is anyone thinking of getting one when it's released? Either way I'm not buying a new kindle just yet as I'm hoping they'll have some Black Friday deals, I doubt they'll reduce the colorsoft but at the very least they may reduce the paperwhite version.

Looks lovely, but I’m not sure I want to pay the extra £100 for a coloured book jacket.

TotallyFloored · 17/10/2024 12:46

Not the question, but remember you can trade your broken one in to Amazon to get a discount on a new one.

I didn't know this, thank you.

I know that's the thing isn't it, it's a lot of money when you put it like that.

Oh that's good to know, thank you! Do you know how much the discount is and if you can get it if it's already discounted e.g. if they do a black Friday deal? I was rather hoping they'd be reduced on Amazon Prime Day but no such luck.

I got quite a big discount on an already discounted normal Kindle on Prime Day in the summer by trading in my old one, maybe about 25%, it was definitely worth it!

TokyoSushi · 17/10/2024 13:43

I've just looked it up - looks lovely! 20% off with trade in which is well worth having!

FeatherBoat · 17/10/2024 13:47

Only some kindles are included in the trade in offer. You can find out straight away though on Amazon as obviously they already know which one you have.

I'm going to get the paperwhite signature as I can't justify the extra just for colour book jackets and highlighting.

It wasn't out then though. The new releases on,y came out yesterday.

There's still Black Friday but they might not be in as they are so new.

ChessieFL · 17/10/2024 13:51

The new colour one does look lovely but even with the trade-in discount it’s still ££££ and I’m not sure it’s worth it.

CocoPlum · 17/10/2024 14:04

You get a discount for trading in AND a £5 voucher (if it doesn't work, a little more if it does).

You may be able to use this on Black Friday for an extra discount.

The coloursoft looks gorgeous but I couldn't justify the cost just for coloured covers. If I read graphic novels, maybe. Spend a little on a beautiful case.

toastofthetown · 17/10/2024 14:41

It’s so subjective on what’s worth it. I’m still clinging onto my 2011 Kindle because I love page turn buttons more than any features since. Colour pages don’t really interest me because books open at page one not the cover and I don’t read graphic novels. It’s super interesting technology though and looks great (or at least the promotional material is doing its job!).

Ahh sorry I meant I was hoping any of the kindles were reduced.

I've got some interest in graphic novels but never bought the kindle version of any of them as my phone screen is too small and I didn't know how it'd work on a normal grey scale kindle. I'm still not sure it's worth the extra though just for the odd graphic novel.

The trade in discount sounds really good, I'll have to do that. Thanks all!

I miss the page turn buttons so much 😭

There's no point for my purposes having a colour kindle. But I am quite interested in the scribe and other e readers you can't write on.

ChessieFL · 17/10/2024 15:35

I think with the colour kindle any photos would also be in colour so might be worth it if you read a lot of non fiction that includes photos. Might also be good for cookery books?

Not2identifying · 17/10/2024 16:07

I've got buttons on my Kindle Oasis but I've just seen how expensive they are now! I would go for a basic Paperwhite if I had to replace mine now.
