I'm following UAE7TR from Dubai to Gatwick. It is currently flying towards Birmingham instead of Gatwick.

Anyone any ideas what's happening with that one?

Daft question, what’s this?! Is it a hot air balloon?!

Click on it and it will give details

DitzyDerbyBabe86 · 16/10/2024 21:56

Not many details to go on?

Is it because of the supposed Russian package on the plane that caused a fire?

Yes those are hot air balloons. They're very high and provide internet capability for smaller island nations.

liveforsummer · 16/10/2024 22:02

It does state it's a balloon (although they spell it ballon)I never imaged they'd fly at over 50,000 feet though, virtually zero ground speed which does sound right. Appeared from the middle of the ocean, private owner. Bizarre!

I have my plane finder app set to alert me when an aircraft squawks a general emergency. I must then track the flight till it lands safely. I like to guess at the new landing airport too.

How do you know the fire trucks are out?

Is there a set of airport webcams? Or are you MNetting from your aviation workplace?

Good question.

I go and look and just see tiny pretend planes 😂

KnickerlessParsons · 16/10/2024 22:17

What's going on with this one?

I love a bit of flight tracking.

I live in a very military area and regularly see aircraft in the sky at night but absolutely nothing on flight tracker. I see the typhoons and the N/A aircraft etc all on the tracker so I'm curious as to why there is nothing at all over my area and yet looking at the sky there definitely is?

I can draw conclusions but interested if anyone has anything actual info on it!

They can turn off the thing that allows flight radar to track them.

I'm guessing it's someone having fun practicing night flying.

Yes and lots of fire trucks waiting at Birmingham airport.

There's fire engines stationed permantly at Birmingham, at least 5 is those that are being shown?

Frenchvocab · 16/10/2024 22:35

@KnickerlessParsons Patrol plane for the channel?

feellikeanalien · 16/10/2024 22:41

Why do these Flightradar thread always start just as I want to go to bed.?😁

FictionalCharacter · 16/10/2024 22:42

Circling around is what they do when they can't land just yet - this explains why you see them circling in specific places. I looked up the playback of a flight I was on recently, which was delayed a bit coming in, and could see which stack I was in.
Holding stacks Heathrow

You can select whether to see ground vehicles or not in your FR options. If you choose to make them visible, they appear as grey blocks. I don't think you can distinguish between fire engines and other vehicles though.

Could be though I'd have thought they'd use military planes?

Air traffic control have to know where they are, obviously, and they seem to show up on FR when they are actually driving about, or near or on the runways. You can sometimes see the maintenance trucks and baggage handling vehicles as well.

It’s a plane commissioned by the Home office.

There is another app that tracks military flights, can't remember the name but sure there will be someone on here that knows it

Kpo58 · 17/10/2024 00:00

I looked at flightradar and was going "Ooh there's a pile of aeroplanes just above Crawley!" ... that's because it's Gatwick airport. 🤦‍♀️
