What hobbies are similar to golf?

Recently separated and considering ideas to keep busy when children are with their dad. I don’t play golf, but ex does and I can see the benefits of a hobby like it…
fresh air, exercise and around nature (all feel good)
able to play whenever you can book a slot (flexible)
social - meet new people. Socialise whilst you play and afterwards.

Give me your suggestions please!

Watching paint dry…sorry, I bloody hate golf! In all seriousness, any sort of outdoor volunteer work would tick those boxes, as well as many of the options above.
I’d say horse riding but I know it’s daunting to get into as an adult!

footgolf is good if you have it locally.

Coffeesnob11 · 15/10/2024 17:39

Geocaching?

MonCoeur · 15/10/2024 17:39

I've really got into hiking/hill walking and just exploring the local area on foot, usually with a dog in tow, sometimes combined with community litter picking, and it’s more enjoyable than I might have imagined. Just being out in nature seeing what you can see is so relaxing.

I live in a very Golfy sort of place and the second most popular thing seems to be tennis or running.
If you're less sporty then wild swimming and walking are both options, paddle boarding and sailing although they can be more summer-only around here.
And there's always cycling - road or off-road. Very sociable.

Jellyslothbridge · 15/10/2024 17:42

Litter picking initiatives! Geo caching, fishing, rowing, sailing. However I think Tennis or wild swimming fits the bill well.

Cycling - look at Breeze rides - women's onky bike rides. Led by women. Once you are confident. You can go out whenever you want.
