Upcycling old office chair

I have a perfectly good office chair. It was faux leather and it started disintegrating. The false leather is peeling off leaving black fluff on the floor. I put the towel on the seat and try to peel off as much fluff as I can but it's just too much.

I don't want to throw it away because apart from that there's nothing wrong with it. And don't want to pay for professional upholstery either as it is expensive. What would the best way trying to fix it myself be?

I looked up at sticky tape like leather stuff on Amazon (it's used to fix tears in leather furniture but I would need to tape up the whole thing!!) and also chair covers. Any other ideas super welcome!

I re-covered a fabric one. Basically the plastic seat back popped off and the fabric was just stretched over it with a drawstring round the edge. So I would try and work out how the original seat is upholstered and then make a new cover. You could get a remnant of decent upholstery fabric.

Edit, see YouTube for videos of people doing this kind of thing

@NotMeNoNo thank you. Glad to know it's doable! 💐

I bought elastic edged covers from e bay and my manky looking chair looks new. They just stretch over the seat and back.
