I'm just about to watch a play with my son's girlfriend and her parents where he has very realistic simulated sex-several times. Finishing school did not prepare me for this eventuality!

Just remember that his girlfriend will be more embarrassed than you are 😂

Wendysfriend · 14/10/2024 19:46

Dear god that's one image I wouldn't want in my head. I always thought I was open minded, obviously not. I don't know who I feel sorry for the most. I'm hoping the gf warned the parents

Radiolala · 14/10/2024 19:41

Surely they know what the play is about?

Why are you embarrassed? I’m assuming that you are all grown ups and have had sex?

Not in front of each other, not watching your child act this out realistically

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 14/10/2024 19:50

@CurlewKate who chose the play??? 😋 that sounds so cringy and embarassing for you!!

nevergonnaguess · 14/10/2024 19:52

OP is probably watching the play right now.

Thank you for coming. Timmy certainly did
It’s quite a bold play, isn’t it
Do you go to the theatre much?
What did you like most in the play?
I suppose we’ll all laugh about this at the wedding
What scene did you find the most uncomfortable?
Timmy just loves physical theatre, I want to support him but I can’t say I do
I imagine it’s much more fun for those acting than for us having to watch
Are you familiar with the works of (playwright)
Im afraid you’re seeing a very ripe example of Timmy’s acting talents, usually he plays a vicar
You’ll never want to come to the theatre with us again, will you

Thank you for coming, Timothy certainly did. 😂😂

Confused. Is your son in the play?

No you weren’t. 😂

Westfacing · 14/10/2024 20:33

I wonder how Timmy is doing, right this minute

Must be nearly time for the interval

ThianWinter · 14/10/2024 20:33

I wouldn't go. I'd be supportive of his acting career but I have no desire to see my son simulating sex at any time, ever.

HarrietJonesFlydaleNorth · 14/10/2024 20:46

Can't believe nobody has asked yet, what's the play?

ApocalypseNowt · 14/10/2024 21:31

Immediately after the sex scene nudge them, stage whisper "that's ma boy!" and do a big exaggerated wink.

@ItsVeryHyacinthBucket

This was hilarious. I don't think I've ever seen a single post that so entirely chimes with my sense of humour.

If this was real life, I'd be like @ItsVeryHyacinthBucket can we go for a drink after work because I want you to be my friend.

ForPearlViper · 14/10/2024 21:49

In the words of a book I liked (but can't remember the title of) just think 'What the Queen Mother do'? Perhaps you could comment on an aspect of the scenery?

CurlewKate · 14/10/2024 23:42

You all made me laugh so much -especially "Timmy just loves physical theatre" It wasn't actually as bad as I expected- we all sort of pretended it wasn't happening- and there was enough in the non-sex bits to talk about in the interval.

For those who asked- it's Lucy Prebble's The Effect. Which is a seriously spectacular play.

But what do I say to her parents? I don't know them very well....

Hello! How lovely to see you. Thank you for supporting my son!

Pastlast · 15/10/2024 13:15

This sounds like the plot of a French farce! Why would you put yourself through this!

CurlewKate · 15/10/2024 14:52

@Pastlast "This sounds like the plot of a French farce! Why would you put yourself through this"

Because I can't go back in time 12 years and not take DS to drama club......🤣
