Please help me with my new carpet colour

I really need some decorating advice please. I need a new living room carpet ( which will also run through the hall/ stairs / landing) We currently have a brown/beige coloured one. It's seen better days and has gone thin through constant shampooing.
I have brown sofas Mid-brown suede material. My walls are pale green and white (living room and hall). My ornaments and bits are either white or silver. Furniture is light oak and white.
I really want a darker carpet. Preferably dark grey. But I don't want to re-decorate or buy new sofas. Can grey work with our colour scheme? I literally can't see the wood for the trees. DH is being as unhelpful as always 🙄.
In my head brown and grey don't go. But google says it can work. I'm useless at colour. Can't see a clash and usually quite like combinations others might dislike. I've looked on Pinterest but I'm getting lost. Can anyone advise me please? And also any tips on choosing a good carpet?
Thank you 🙏

What about a dark green or khaki carpet?

I can't envision grey looking good with the colour scheme you have, grey and brown can go, but I think woukd need elements of caramel, cream and navy to tie it together.

I do like bolder carpets though.

I try and buy 80/20 wool to man made fiber and they hold up really well. I usually try and buy roll ends so it works out a little cheaper, but usually if I'm doing a new carpet I will redecorate the room (keeping all major furniture like sofas and tables etc) just changing wall colours, rugs and curtains so I can get nearly any off cut I want. Then I will look for curtains to tie the carpet to the sofa and work from there

DH suggested dark green. My feeling is that I want a more neutral colour. This carpet will have to last a long time. I don't want to be tied into always having earthy tones if that makes sense. I love green though. Most of the carpets I've seen tend to go from cream -beige- brown and then the grey ranges.
Thanks for the roll end tip. I remember my mum doing that. Used to love the smell of the carpet shop when we went. Thank you.

The only advice I can give is to work out whether your decor is warm toned or cool toned and keep that in mind when choosing the carpet. I’m not an expert, but I think most colours have a cool, warm or neutral version. Maybe google neutral grey and use that as guide

Can you get some swatches and see which looks best?

Thank you thank you. I think it's warm toned. So maybe a grey on the warmer spectrum (if such a thing exists!). Will get some swatches as well.
