Where for a night away with children in Uk?

I’m a single mum and I would love to plan to take away my children next year individually (for some 1-1 time) somewhere in the Uk. We are in Northern Ireland so either someone handy to fly to for 1 or 2 nights with plenty to do for kids aged 8 and 9 or else somewhere we could drive to.
not even sure where to start, they have never flown before but are equally excited to take a boat trip

It's obvious but London is great - Science and Natural History Museums, the Tower of London - walking around seeing the sights like Tower Bridge, Big Ben, the London Eye etc. There's also Leicester Square with the touristy shops and buskers.

Other places you could try: Cardiff, Liverpool (could get the ferry?), Bristol, Edinburgh? Or you could even look into flights to Newquay and do some of Cornwall. Depends what they're into really.

Somewhere near Galloway Forest Park.

Hi, a boy in my daughter’s year punched her friend in the throat and kicked another in her stomach, he recently struck again on another child but this time much worse. Turns out he’s got anger issues and does MMA. School are brushing his behaviour under the carpet but I’m worried and have raised this with the head only to be dismissed. He was suspended for two day so we’re all waiting for him to strike again. Turns out after the parents spoke about it, he’s been doing it inside/outside of school for years! His parents are AHoles and don’t care but I don’t want it to be my child next. Am I making a big deal for nothing?
