Just found out where my most recent blood donation went

I love getting that text. This time I also got an email with a link to Google maps so I could see the journey my blood went on. Grin It went to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford, via the processing plant in Colindale. If I hadn't already booked my next appointment this would have spurred me on to do it, so (for me, anyway) this is a really effective bit of marketing. Anyone else, or am I just a weirdo?

no i love it too and there now as you say even more information about the journey,
mine went to Dorset

Hanni5686 · 13/10/2024 08:44

Well done for donating! I've received donated blood and I'm very grateful 🙏

linoer · 13/10/2024 08:45

Ah well done. The texts really make you feel like you’ve made a difference. I’m glad they send them

I had my first baby in that hospital! Via emergency c-section so needed blood. Lots of my school and NCT friends were were similar. Thanks from the Essex girls!

BitOutOfPractice · 13/10/2024 09:29

Yes, from Chelmsford, thank you!

I have neo-natal antibodies in my blood and is a rare blood type so mine often goes to neonatal units which makes me very happy indeed.

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 13/10/2024 09:34

Mine is used in neonates too! One bag of my bloods treats up to 6 premature babies.
I walk on air when I’ve donated. 🥰

I’m going to have a go at donating platelets next, maybe alternate blood and platelets if I can.

Been doing it for years, I’m quite robust at replenishment so I am not turned away due to low haemoglobin, (the blood drop test they do) so take a multivitamin with iron every other day in between.

NigelHarmansNewWife · 13/10/2024 09:42

Mine went all the way from Manchester to Oldham! It's good to know. In the past mine has gone to neonatal units - I haven't had the virus that means they don't use your blood for babies.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/10/2024 09:48

I was particularly pleased to be able to donate this time as I've been turned away the last two times for not having high enough haemoglobin - perfectly healthy level for normal purposes, but not high enough to donate. I've been eating liver here and there and possibly that has helped. (I like liver, I've not been forcing myself to eat it.) I eat plenty of green veg anyway. Will keep this regime up over the winter.

I love getting that text, too. Not sure why but my blood most of the time is marked as neonatal which just feels even more worthwhile!

Felith · 13/10/2024 09:50

I'm so impressed with you all! I'm banned now but it was such a good feeling having that biscuit and squash at the end knowing you'd done something amazing 😍

ShoeJunkie · 13/10/2024 09:50

I love getting the text too!
Mine went to St Peter’s in Chertsey.

blondieminx · 13/10/2024 09:51

I can’t donate now sadly. I am profoundly grateful to all current wonderful donors - one of my dearest friends had a very difficult birth and had a transfusion …and your donations are SO important. Thank you, thank you, thank you xx

I like seeing where my donations go too.

curious79 · 13/10/2024 09:52

I loved it too butttt they stuck the needle into my nerves on my last donation and I haven’t been back since. That can cause permanent damage so I’m afraid of a repeat. I have a rare blood type so they’re chasing me… hounding me

PaulaTrilloe · 13/10/2024 10:02

I had 2 units of Barnsley's finest on Friday and I am in Nottingham thank you Donors!

I hope you're recovering well.

I absolutely love getting told where my donation went - I've been donating for years and think the introduction of that follow up text is genius! I've recently had a baby so haven't been able to donate for a while but really looking forward to getting back to it when I can (so I don't think you're a weirdo, OP, but if you are, you're not the only one!)

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 13/10/2024 10:13

I've only successfully given blood once and I loved that text!

I need to try again, really.

Livinginchaos · 13/10/2024 10:15

Oh I miss giving blood. Can't do it anymore because I have received transfusions myself. But thanks to all you donators. The texts sound amazing.

I have this as well, and it spurs me on to make an appointment when I feel I cba.

Frozensnow · 13/10/2024 10:18

I got a text too to say mine had gone to hospital not far from me. I really liked getting that text! Def spurred me on to donate again

Thank you from a Dorset Vascular Surgeon . Might have been one of my patients. I can’t save lives and limbs without blood donors.

Zanatdy · 13/10/2024 10:24

When I had a blood transfusion I did think that someone would be getting a text now, same when my then 12yr old DD ended up with a transfusion after a hellish first period which wouldn’t stop. Thanks to all blood donors, the colour came back to her face fast. Mine was also because of very low iron, post major surgery. I have donated 23 pints, but of course I am now not able to donate. I’m the only person out of my family & friends who was a blood donor, not sure why more people don’t do it, they juts rely on other people doing it

DuchessofSaltmist · 13/10/2024 10:24

I love that they now tell me where my blood has gone. I’m O negative and my blood is also suitable for neo nates which gives me extra incentive to donate. It’s nice and easy to donate here too, so I haven’t missed a session in about 10 years.

wulves · 13/10/2024 10:26

Do they tell you your blood type when you donate? I think I know but I’m not 100% sure and wanted to donate when they were looking for O types.
