Aftershave for DH!

GiddyRobin · 12/10/2024 22:54

DH and I were talking about Christmas gifts, and he says he'd like a new aftershave! He has a selection of various ones but isn't keen. He doesn't like Sauvage, or any of the "major" ones.

Fragrances he enjoys are the perfumes I wear from Lush - spiced things with pine and sandalwood, fresh, herby? I mean, I could buy him one of those because they're pretty neutral and not feminine or masculine but I don't know.

Favourite scents he says:
Ink
Trees
Rain
Horses 🤣
Woodsmoke.

He's 40, historian, academic, manly in a very romantic novel kind of way to give you a picture. Very outdoorsy, musical, fix anything, Norwegian. I've got no idea if this helps! Can give more if needed, I think scents are quite personal.

I find scents so hard because I've never gone for big names myself - I don't like overpowering smells that you smell on people in the street? Obviously it's for him, but I'd like it to suit him and I think I know what he means but...I can't place a finger on it!

Tom Ford Noir is lovely. Quite smokey.

I still love DH’s Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme and recommend to everyone!

Oh I love a smoky scent! I'll have to have a whiff! Think he'd quite suit something smoky actually.

@EnteringAUsername Tangerine! That could work nicely on his skin actually. I'm going to have to go and inhale him now and give notes. 🤣

To me he naturally smells sort of...God this sounds weird, like nettles or something? Really fresh? I'm trying to think of components that would work nicely with that too.

This is the weirdest sounding post I've ever written. 😂

Bvlgari do some lovely mens fragrances. The Rain essence is lovely, and the wood neroli also.

feliciabirthgiver · 12/10/2024 23:07

I know it's not what you are looking for, but if you want to get him any bath/shower wash etc in the future then I recommend Noble Isle, it's what your description reminded me of, they are lovely manly/earthy/fresh fragrances.

PickAChew · 12/10/2024 23:08

He might like some of the older Calvin klein scents - lots of sandalwood.

I second this!

I can’t bear the smell of Sauvage since I had Covid in 2020 so DP had to find something else, and Issey Miyake suits us both Grin

Acqua di Parma Colonia

Tom Ford Grey Vetiver

Byredo Mr Marvelous

Oh these all sound lovely! I'm planning a trip out tomorrow or Monday for a sniff of things, so I'm keeping a list of everything with all the scents attached. Thank you all loads!

@feliciabirthgiver We've got a wedding anniversary coming up soon, so this will be a perfect extra for his gift then! Thank you! It sounds SO him.

Neroli is a really nice smell too, @BreadMachine so I'm tempted to add that as another extra.

Thank you everyone! I love that the Issey Miyake L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme is getting double reviews too! Poor man is going to end up with a basket full. 🤣 This is all super helpful!

Is it worth getting testers? Do they do small ones I can bring home and try on him? He won't mind if he's smelled it before and then gets it. The surprise will be the bottle!

Kneeslikethese · 12/10/2024 23:28

Armani He aftershave is lovely.

tolerable · 12/10/2024 23:29

victor rolf spicebomb..... i adore it. its gentle(not overwhelm) sort of soft pepper spicy with clean gentle zing.

MostlyCloudy1 · 12/10/2024 23:30

My husband had a phase of Lush Lord Of Misrule spray, not sure if it’s still available

Omg I LOVED this on him! We only got a tiny bottle and it ran out, I need to check. I've not seen it in store since.

@Wherearemymarbles This sounds really nice. And if I get candles, too! Will have to not buy the same as his aftershave. Don't want his sweet head to get too big. 🤣

@tolerable That sounds lovely. I think that's the subtle kind of thing I'm trying to express. Clean and spiced but not in a great big whoosh. I can imagine that working well, I think he'd like that.

Got two chicken poxxed kiddos so while I'm not able to reply to everyone, rest assured every single reccomdation is hugely appreciated!

L'occitanr Eau de Baux is delicious and I think would be a good fit based on what you have described

TossedSaladandSE · 13/10/2024 00:05

He'd probably like Acqua di Parma - Colonia

DiscoBeat · 13/10/2024 00:14

I bought some decently sized fragrances for him from.Penhaligons and since bought him a bottle of Halfeti, as that was his favourite. That came to mind when you described what your DH likes.

Blueberrycreampie · 13/10/2024 00:35

Penhaligan's Quercus but it's not cheap!

MostlyCloudy1 · 13/10/2024 18:51

Following my last post OP I ended up buying him the perfume bottle for Christmas , so thanks for reminding me lolI. It’s definitely back but never hangs around for long

So they do still make it? Ahhh that's excellent! I'm 100% getting him one of those even if it's just as an anniversary gift, because it's so so nice. Love how it doesn't have a chemical smell on the skin either! I hope your DH likes it!

I didn't get a chance to shop today, so tomorrow I'm taking my list and going smelling shopping! I'll definitely update on what I go for.
