18th birthday money for nieces/nephews

How much do people give for an 18th?

I've always made quite a fuss of their birthdays. But feel like I might be a bit out of touch as prices have increased so much.

I'm comfortable but not rich.

I give £100 for 18th & £150 for 21st. I’m not well off, they get just £20 in a card for other birthdays and Christmas, along with a little gift to open, but I do have 9 nieces & nephews!

Goodness, that's very generous especially as you have nine!

I think I just bump it up for a big b.day as they get so little the rest of the time tbh and it means they can buy themselves something decent for their big bdays.

I spent about £40 on my niece (on a gift) and will do similarly for other nieces/nephews.
But I only see her about twice a year, and I'm not sure she would be able to pick me out in a crowd.
I'm also not bothering with birthdays after 18th.

£200 for 18th (but we can quite comfortably afford it), but then we stop after 18th.

I did £100 for nephew for his 18th. Usually give £50 for birthday and Christmas but also gave him £50 for celebrating his A level results and another £50 for freshers week. I have 7 nieces and nephews but quite spread out. If I end up giving more to the younger ones, I'll top the big nephew up!

Thanks for replies. I think why I'm perhaps overthinking this is that I spent a lot on other nephew's 21st earlier this year. I realised that it was the last 'special' birthday and made quite an effort. Will obviously do the same in future.

I don't know what the plan is for after 18 though? My niece is away at university so I imagine I would carry on with the £50 for birthdays and Christmas.

I feel like it's even more needed and a nice thing to receive after leaving home, but realise a lot of people have a cut off date, especially if they don't have much of a relationship.

That's a good point, TryingAgainAgainAgain, my niece will definitely appreciate it and I would do the same with her brother so that it's equal. I think I'll continue till 21 and then think about it.

My dn is having a 30th big do so I’m giving £60 and a gift too as I like to wrap something. The gift will be about £20.
