Bp 171/111 OK to go home from A and E?

Sat in A and E currently after being sent by ecg referral. I have had pain down left arm and pins and needles in my left hand for a few days now and pain in my left leg, worse in my groin. Talking to some people waiting and they have been here for over 14 hours.
Not sure wether to wait it out or try GP again (who told me to check bp at home and come back in two weeks!)
I've been here 4 and half hours so far.

You need to wait it out. I have had several trips to A&E recently with heart problems and they have all involved 14 hour waits. But thank goodness I waited - they found a main coronary artery almost completely blocked and needing a stent. I am lucky to be alive.

Pain down your left arm and ECG changes? Definitely stay!

If you are symptomatic of the high BP, which you are, then yes you must stay.

It's going to be a pain OP but I'd stay if I were you, especially as you're still having symptoms. Do you have a phone charger? It'll just be a case of hunkering down unfortunately, did you bring a book or anything? Are you able to get a drink from somewhere? Hope all is okay!

Please wait.

olderbutwiser · 08/10/2024 22:40

Have you had an ecg, or waiting for one? Have you been triaged?

Tereseta · 08/10/2024 22:47

ECG was fine at the clinic that referred me up here, not heard how the one at a and e went but guessing it's OK too.
Been triaged and blood taken, pain is coming and going. Worried it might be something big.

Message read and very much taken on board. I'm glad you got diagnosed and treated.

I'm glad you waited. Take anything cardiac like that seriously!

MissEloiseBridgerton · 08/10/2024 23:08

If you go to GP tomorrow, they will likely refer you back there anyway.

Normallynumb · 08/10/2024 23:08

They're likely waiting on the blood results so please do stay
When the heart is damaged, it elevates a protein called Troponin
I do hope it's not cardiac related, but it's important to rule it out.

“Worried it might be something big”, having symptoms well known to be potentially cardiac-related, hypertensive, yet asking randomers online whether it’s ok to leave A&E instead of taking the advice of the professionals who have seen you and your ECG? The mind boggles.

After 15 hours and three blood tests, a chest x Ray and a further ECG I got sent home with unexplained pain. No heart attack markers, no blood clot marker, BP still both three figures but DR said that is normal for clinical setting.
It was brutal in there, so many ambulances lined up with patients in for hours outside, two prisoners from the local prison and a lovely woman I sat next to who had been there for two nights waiting for a mental health bed.
Glad I got checked over though but still in pain and feel shit. Going to start the process again with my GP! I was feeling very anxious last night, thanks for the supportive comments, bar the lovely @sammylady37
