any advise on heating please, we have a very old parkray backboiler system that does not work since we moved in June this year, it does not have a emersion so we have no hot water either.
We own the home.
Have tried grant schemes but keep getting refused as house already has sufficient roof insulation and external installation.
We get universal credit , I get pip and husband gets carers allowance.
My condition is worse in cold weather and its going to be a struggle.

Council wont help as need to be living in the house for a year before they will help with loan or similar, tried CAB nothing given has come through, tried age UK again none of there suggestions have progressed, Wrote to local MP got nowhere all information they sent has already been exhausted.

dontbenastyhaveapasty thanks have tried the grant option but as house is very well insulated we dont meet the criteria. Its a old heating system estimated 30 years , im just trying to find a local source who could repair and service it to make it useable . thanks very much for the reply.

It’s a shame you’re not eligible for the grants - we’re also not eligible for any, but due to having 2 full-time incomes rather than any insulation…. 🥶

Have you looked into getting an immersion heater fitted to your existing hot water tank? You’ll need an electrician, rather than a plumber - but it might fix the hot water problem relatively easily and quickly?

The immersion is basically a replaceable cap on the top of the tank, with a long heat exchanger sticking downwards from the cap into the water. You’d need an electrician to set up the power supply.
