What scales would you trust more? Mechanical or digital?

I have 2 sets of bathroom scales, salter mechanical doctor style or amazon homebody digital glass scale.

There's a 7lb difference between the two.

Unless they have been calibrated, either or both could be out.

Are you using them in the same place on the floor? If they are on carpet rather than a hard surface they can read low even if correctly calibrated.

Either or both could be out.

I have two pairs of mechanical scales, and both give wildly different readings (with considerable difference between them). And I've decided it must be because I live in a Victorian house and the floor might be slightly wonky.

So I tend to believe MIL's scales when we're staying there, hold that in my head as the "accurate" result and use mine to note if the trend is up or down even if the figure might be off.

I'd trust the ones that weigh less and then have some cake

We have digital now and the old ones were mechanical and there is a light part of the floor you can use with both😁
