Advice: what is causing hair loss?

Hello there - I started losing my hair about a month ago, not in patches but diffuse - it's blocking the shower every day. It's quite a marked change.

I had some blood tests which show slightly raised thyroid antibodies (TPO 45) and low iron (24). My thyroid is currently otherwise normal.

I wondered if anyone knew which problem was likely to be causing the hair loss, the iron or the thyroid? The doctors aren't bothered so I'm wondering what to do next.

Thanks!

Hi there. I'm in a similar boat, 10 weeks in and have the same diffuse hair loss, scalp very clearly visible which I am finding very distressing. Dermatologist confirmed mine is as a result of low ferritin and Vitamin D so I am now taking supplements and keeping everything crossed that my hair will return to normal before too long! As a first port of call, I'd suggest going back to your GP and asking for more blood tests, specifically ferritin, vitamin D and Zinc. Hopefully that will give you an idea what's causing it. There's an 'iron protocol' group on Facebook which is very helpful in terms of advice for raising levels of those low in iron. I'm also taking Viviscal Pro which I feel is making a small difference. Hope things improve for you!

Hormonal changes, stress, vitamin deficiencies , certain medications ( birth control, antidepressants)

Lichen plans- is it itchy? You’ll need steroid cream

Other than the iron and thyroid, have you had any other changes or stress? Given birth, lost weight? Any of these can cause diffuse hair loss.
When I've dieted- slowly and controlled, I lost hair about 3mths after starting the diet. It only lasted a month or so, then seemed to stop- the hair loss I mean. Did anything happen/start 3mths ago OP?
