Any Homestart volunteers who also work FT?

I'm interested in becoming a HS volunteer but not sure whether it's doable around a FT (albeit very flexible) job. Ideally I'd like a placement evening or weekends but could for example help someone first thing in the morning on a Friday as I can flex my working hours that day. Is this realistic or should I wait until I'm not working FT? Any others tips or advice would be great. I used to childmind for many years and visited the sure start centre and one of the volunteers there did a talk about HS volunteering and it's only now my own children are a bit older I feel I can give the time.

I was a volunteer years ago alongside a part time job and a nursing degree. It was hard but I absolutely loved the volunteer role and found it really rewarding. If you can make it work I would do it. I still remember two families I supported quite vividly and feel the experience helped shaped me be the nurse I am now

You'll likely need to do the training course first which will be during work hours and probably won't fit in with your working hours.

Once you've qualified though you should be fine to just volunteer on a Friday morning.

You're best off speaking to your local branch.

Thanks yes will be speaking to the local branch and already responded to an ad expressing interest & asking for a call back. I'm very lucky in that my work give very generous leave plus 3 days for volunteering so I don't mind using those for training as I gather this can be 8-10 days over a few months.

Good to hear your experiences and welcome any more input but ultimatley will see what they say.
