Dead pigeon in drive

I have just found a dead pigeon in my drive, innards out. Saw another in a similar state in a path nearby a few days ago. Would cats usually leave pigeons where they kill them? Or something else- another bird? This is the first time I’ve seen this here- let alone twice in as many days….

I’m pretty squeamish and super grossed out about how to dispose of it? Really wouldn’t know where to start but obviously don’t want to leave it just sat in the drive. What should I do? Help please!

So I was genuinely thinking the other week why we never see dead birds in the street considering there are so many of them in the sky at any one time

them being food for others now makes perfect sense. Leave it there OP

I cannot stand picking up dead birds. Unfortunately we have massive windows that baby birds fly into in spring and break their necks.

I throw some kitchen towel over them so I can't see it and use a litter picker to pick it and put it in a carrier bag.

Stickers on the outside of the glass will help prevent this (not on the inside, they don’t see those). The RSPB sell special stickers to help prevent bird strikes.

If you eat meat you can handle a dead bird. Just scoop it up with a shovel and drop it in the general waste bin.

I once found a pigeon head on our drive. Looked like it was clean cut and never found the rest of it 😳 Luckily my neighbour offered to pick it up and throw it in the undergrowth (I’m just very squeamish).

@PatChaunceysFruitCake you can get self adhesive bird silhouette for your windows. Deters birds from flying into the glass

Oh this reminds me of a time my cat went through a phase of bringing dead pigeons into the house 🤢 I disposed of them in similar ways to those mentioned here, but once I found a body with a severed head. I couldn't bring myself to touch the head, but had a long handled dustpan and brush. I covered the brush head and dustpan in plastic bags with the intention of sweeping and bagging the head. However, I imagine because it wasn't a perfect sphere, every time I swept the head in went in a different direction to where I expected. I was there for ages, chasing it around the hallway, trying to knock the head into the dustpan. It was like a very twisted game of crazy golf, and still makes me want to laugh and hurl when I think about it! 😆
