I can't quite decide if I'd be delighted or utterly terrified -maybe a bit of both but I think over all I'd find it quite worrying...

Strange story - I wonder what was going through his mind Burglar did the cleaning

Damian Wojnilowicz custody picture

Burglar hung out victim's washing and unpacked shopping

The victim returned home to find her house broken into and a note left saying "be happy, eat up".

Sounds like he wanted to play house for a while, as he didn’t have one.

DreadPirateRobots · 04/10/2024 15:23

While it is absolutely a crime, and very upsetting for the victims, it's a rather pathetic crime under the circumstances.

MinistryofThyme · 04/10/2024 15:29

I'd feel just as violated as the victims if this happened to me, but reading about it I can't help but feel quite sad for him. He must have been very unwell and very lonely.

mynewhouse · 04/10/2024 15:29

That’s really creepy and kind of sinister.

InformerYaNoSayDaddyMeSnowMeIGoBlameALickyBoom · 04/10/2024 15:32

Oh no I hope he doesn't come to my home when I'm out between 6 and 7 and start on my housework. If I see him at 23 Smith Street in smithsville I'm for sure calling the police. Especially if he goes into the cupboard under the stairs and gets the hoover out, and finds the wash powder under the kitchen sink... I would be fuming.

That’s what I thought too, I can see why it would be scary for the victim but it’s also quite sad.

mynewhouse · 04/10/2024 15:39

I think I might find it sad and fairly harmless if he just made a meal or watched tv or something but he changed the toothbrush heads and hung out the washing? That’s weird and intrusive and he must have known that.
Once when I was a kid my parents gave my uncle a key to our house when we were on holiday for some reason I can’t remember, but when we got home he’d had a party in our house and all of our beds had been slept in by god knows who. They had tidied up, nothing was missing except food from the fridge and stuff like that, but it was just obvious people other than us had been staying there and it felt really odd and creepy.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 04/10/2024 15:45

Definitely creepy and frightening for both the lady whose house he broke into first, and the other guy who saw him on his CCTV and sent a relative around to get rid of him.

But yes, rather sad too - he needs some help while he's in prison.

DogInATent · 04/10/2024 15:56

I can't help thinking there's a very sad story behind how he's come to be homeless and doing things like this. As far as I can make out from the story the only items he's taken were the food and drink he consumed?

(I think we can all guess how the film version ends when Channel 4 get around to it)

T4phage · 04/10/2024 16:00

I feel bad for the victims, but also sad for the man. I think he would make a nice lodger for someone, but I think I read in the article that he drinks, so it would depend upon his ability to behave himself in the long term.

DoIWantTo · 04/10/2024 16:15

I can completely understand why it was distressing to the victims; I’m absolutely going to hell for laughing at this and hoping he shows up at mine and does the cleaning for me once he’s out and about again Grin
