Do you think your children have good godparents?

Just wondering on this? I've recently been asked to be a god parent and wondering how much is involved. Those of you who have good god parents for your children what makes them good? Do they treat all siblings the same even those they are not god parents for? What things do the best god parents do? Will it cost a lot of money?

depends on why you have been asked to be a god parent? do you go to church? the whole point of a god parent is to ensure the child has an upbringing in their chosen faith!

lots of people now offer the title god-parent as a 'gift' to best friends, with no intention of going to church. i think all it will cost you is an extra special present for birthdays and christmas's! some consider it an honour and others take it seriously.

We're not Christian but we chose godparents as additional adults who would support our children through their lives, if I'm honest we didn't have clear expectations in mind beyond that.

Then my partner died suddenly when our daughter was 2, it was devastating. Both godparents were amazing (and believe me, not everyone was). One was the only person who offered me overnight childcare when I was really struggling. The other was a brilliant listening ear when I was crying my eyes out on many occasions and would come to stay overnight to keep me company. I'll be grateful to them forever.

I obviously didn't think about this at the time but in hindsight this is exactly what I would have wanted, people who are there for the child through the hard times.

Thank you for this both of you. No I am not religious. One is a very good friend, and one a younger family member with their first child.
Gosh Lincoln 24 so sorry to hear of this. But so glad the godparents stepped up.
