Unusual but delicious sandwich fillings

I had a cheese sandwich today and had run out of pickle. So I scanned the pantry and decided to try a bit of mint sauce. Delicious!

What other fillings am I missing out on?

Cheese and salad cream

Oh gosh yes, with very thinly sliced celery is the best!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2024 01:38

Sage and Onion stuffing balls, French soft rinded cheese like Brie or Camembert, mayonnaise, on crusty bread

Baguette with Spanish omelette, roasted green pepper, garlic mushrooms and mayo

Egg mayo and plain crisps on crusty white

Any flavour potato crisps on thickly buttered white bread

Wensleydale, mayo and roasted peppers in a roll

Chinese stir fried veg and omelette with cheese, mayo and chili sauce in sliced bread

Buttery hot cross bun with cheese (any) as a pp mentioned

Can you tell I love a sandwich?!

ILoveToCleanSaidNooneEver · 04/10/2024 02:04

Oh, a bubble and squeak sandwich. Well, my version is leftover potato, broccoli, carrots and cabbage fried together and slapped between 2 slices of white, buttered bread. If I'm feeling adventurous, I'll fry some onions first and then add the bubble and squeak before sprinkling in some grated cheese. So comforting.

2 of my favourite sandwiches are…
Cold Lasagna
Cold Cottage pie…
comes from years working as a chef and grabbing leftovers at end of shift!,
a close 3rd is Stilton, mayo and onion marmalade

I used to eat lasagne leftovers for breakfast, back in the day when my metabolism was like a F1 race car and I could eat whatever I wanted!

Walkers with brown sauce ... don't knock it till you try it

WillowTit · 04/10/2024 06:47

cheese/brie and grape or pear

cheese and peanut butter with a chilli sauce

sashh · 04/10/2024 06:51

Not sure if this counts as a sandwich.

Pita bread, lettuce, crispy bacon and crème fraiche.

Crisps.

Chocolate, not Nutella actual thin chocolate bars.

My dad used to make condensed milk and sugar.

@OliveHenry

Corned beef & lemon curd is surprisingly delicious.

How? Why? Who?

Discovered by a pregnant friend. Thought "wtf?!" but tried it and was pleasantly surprised. Works best with the slightly luminous cheap lemon curd, not the artisan stuff 😋

Stilton and marmalade in a baguette

Nottogetapenny · 04/10/2024 07:47

Hummus (instead of butter) sliced gherkins and ham on wholemeal bread. Delicious

Nottogetapenny · 04/10/2024 07:49

Lettuce leaves, tomatoes and it has to be Heinz salad cream on buttered white bread!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/10/2024 08:00

Blue cheese, avocado , spinach and tomato

Calliopespa · 04/10/2024 11:42

Not going to pick a particular suggestion cos that’s mean but honestly guys, putting it in bread doesn’t excuse total taste collisions. There’s surprising and then there’s the equivalent of eating the random contents of a kitchen bin. 🤨😖

SnacklessWonder · 04/10/2024 12:07

Cream cheese and grated carrot

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 04/10/2024 12:30

Potato salad - the kind you get in a little tub from the supermarket. Not homemade.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/10/2024 12:37

Yes I sometimes have left over bought potato salad with avocado and cheese, preferably Emmental. I wouldn't do it with homemade potato salad though!

FanFckingTastic · 04/10/2024 12:39

Sliced banana, cream cheese and a drizzle of honey is yum.

If you are feeling really fancy add a few crushed nuts too.

Omm nom nom.
