Unusual but delicious sandwich fillings

I had a cheese sandwich today and had run out of pickle. So I scanned the pantry and decided to try a bit of mint sauce. Delicious!

What other fillings am I missing out on?

Brie and cranberry sauce - especially in a croissant

another vote for a soft boiled egg, mayo and either watercress or lettuce

peanut butter and marmite

Cheese and pineapple.

A white roll with a nice strong cheddar and tinned pineapple is delicious 😋

You beat me to it!

I once had a Wensleydale and Carrot Chutney on brown ready made sarnie from a petrol station near my house. I used to get them quite a bit until they stopped making them. I’ve never seen them again. That was over 10 years ago and I still think about them 😂😂😂

M and s or read my previous post where I put the recipe for a very similar chutney.

Peanut, celery, cheese and mayo.

Bacon (well done smoked streaky), grape jelly and peanut butter. (This is one of the things that killed Elvis P off).

Wotsits (already had a mention but, well, just, noms).

Iamaf · 03/10/2024 22:05

Genius thread!
I have no unusual sarnie recipes at all..until now, you’ve brightened my lunchbox😁

BrightYellowDaffodil · 03/10/2024 22:06

Cream cheese and mango chutney on toast.

Not a sandwich but someone previously mentioned Frazzles - Frazzles dipped in sour cream and chive dip are absolute heaven.

Toffolossus · 03/10/2024 22:08

Toasted cheese and finely chopped green chill (works well with marmite too)
Tuna mayo mixed with chopped chilli (red or green)

Daijoubudesu · 03/10/2024 22:09

Cheddar and any kind of jam
Golden syrup sandwich
Cheese and tinned pineapple
Vegemite and lettuce
Grape, brie and bacon

Bananamanlovesyou · 03/10/2024 22:09

@Pleiades2020 OMG thankyou! I live in the sticks so only one tiny M and S near me but I will be checking it out. I haven’t looked for ages I had given up! The google also revealed a you tube video on how to recreate it if I can’t find it 😂

Lots of these sound delicious but pretty normal!
I'm trying to think of a weird one I like...

Once when I was stranded in Paris with a couple euros left to my name and a bus ticket, I bought a fresh warm baguette and a portion of fries from McDonald's and crammed them into the bread, with plenty of salt. For some reason it tasted absolutely amazing?! Maybe cos I'd been surviving on cheap red wine and fags alone for two weeks. 🙃

Goats cheese with blackcurrant jam is pretty banging too. But not that weird I guess.

alwaysanauntie · 03/10/2024 22:11

Dry cured ham, salt & vinegar crisps & Nutella. Maybe a little mayo on the bread on the ham side (Nutella & crisps have to go on the other side). Not made it since I was about 10, but might be tempted this weekend... 😋

Noseybookworm · 03/10/2024 22:11

Brie, thinly sliced pear and caramelised onions in a warm crusty roll/baguette - heavenly!

Justlurking10 · 03/10/2024 22:12

Smashed avocado, Grilled chicken and feta is amazing on seeded sourdough bread.

I think peanut butter and jam sounds pretty revolting but my friend has won me over. Great on hiking trips.

WinterCarlisle · 03/10/2024 22:16

I’ve thought of more!

spanish omelette in a baguette with salted butter and good quality ripe tomatoes

Tinned mackerel in tomato sauce on granary toast

Smoked mackerel in a wrap with a good squeeze of lemon, a bit of mayo and a lot of rocket

marmite, cheese and lettuce in a crusty roll

Loub1987 · 03/10/2024 22:21

Mayonnaise chicken salad, tayto crisps, loads of butter and white sliced bread.

Loving this thread!

Dragonfly97 · 03/10/2024 22:22

Cottage pie (hot) on white sliced with butter. DH has asked me to mention it!

Awishcometrue · 03/10/2024 22:26

Gravy mince pie, 2 slices of lovely white bread, smothered in lurpak...the work of the devil but delicious 😋

Solmum1964 · 03/10/2024 22:27

@MoneyAndPercentages @JC03745 Cheese and marmite is good but cheese, marmite and cucumber is even better!

Cheese and salad cream

This is an elite sandwich, my go to when I get home from work 🫠

Tanktanktank · 03/10/2024 22:31

There was a sandwich shop in Bushbury where I used to work and they did roast sandwiches.

it was a big bap type roll with roast pork, stuffing and gravy- can’t remember what else was in it but it was hot.

makes me drool thinking about it. Must have been 25 years ago now.

Aproductofmyera80s · 03/10/2024 22:31

Ham and coleslaw 🫣
my sons concoction sandwich as he calls it…
fried spam, fried egg, pepperoni, cheese with crispy onions. He makes one when he’s hungry in the evening at least once a week

mawik · 03/10/2024 22:31

2 of my favourite sandwiches are…
Cold Lasagna
Cold Cottage pie…
comes from years working as a chef and grabbing leftovers at end of shift!,
a close 3rd is Stilton, mayo and onion marmalade

greengreyblue · 03/10/2024 22:32

Cream cheese(Philly type NOT Dairylea) and marmalade.

Tanktanktank · 03/10/2024 22:35

Oh and chicken and ready salted crisps sandwiches. Must be with butter, crisps must be real crisps not Pringles, must be white bread (the only time I eat it).
