I had a cheese sandwich today and had run out of pickle. So I scanned the pantry and decided to try a bit of mint sauce. Delicious!

What other fillings am I missing out on?

I also like on toast, green pesto, then mashed avocado and chilli flakes on top, topped with a fried egg. Ideally sourdough.

hels71 · 03/10/2024 21:32

My two favourites are: cheese, tomato, cucumber and beetroot.
Egg mayonnaise with salt and vinegar chipsticks!!!

Mygosh · 03/10/2024 21:32

M&S do a Wensleydale and carrot chutney which is absolutely delicious.

I love strawberry jam with salt n vinegar crisps, sweet/sour. I should be ashamed, but I'm not.

Avocado mashed with lime juice, sea salt and chilli flakes on top of lemon or jalapeño hummus is also amazing.

Make it yourself and it's even better, carrot chutney recipe: https://www.vegetariantimes.com/recipes/sweet-carrot-chutney/ I use golden caster. Lasts a long time in fridge.

Sweet Carrot Chutney

Dollop this condiment on top of spicy dishes to tame their heat.

I feel like I have my lunches planned for the next two years at least now!

ladymalfoy45 · 03/10/2024 21:38

Not quite a sandwich but a burger with a bhaji and masala curry sauce in a bun.

DollopOfFun · 03/10/2024 21:39

Not super unusual, but good scran-

Smoked salmon, cream cheese and sun dried tomatoes, on a croissant.

Egg and salad cream (not mayo) on open finger rolls.

Cold roast pork, with stuffing, White bread, thick butter, smear of apple sauce on one slice only.

bakewellbride · 03/10/2024 21:39

Hummus, gherkin and veg - so good!

Hayley1256 · 03/10/2024 21:39

Some of fave random ones are:

Mashed Banana with a bit of sugar on white bread.

Chilli con carne on top of a buttered baguette (the proper big one cut into small slices)

Peanut butter, nutella and sliced Banana on top of a toasted sourdough bagel

Chicken instant noodles (buttered white bread)

Dairylea light cheese slices, tomatoes and mayo or salad cream on brown bread

Corned beef or ham with chips in a buttered white bread cake/roll

Salami, garlic and chilli stuffed olives (sliced), cheese made as a toastie in the air fryer

FiveGoMadInDorset · 03/10/2024 21:40

Sausages and marmalade every time

MusicLife80 · 03/10/2024 21:41

I like a toasted peanut butter and banana sandwich, the banana has to be piping hot and gooey.

Cheese and onion crisp sandwich

brie and grape sandwich

GoldenLegend · 03/10/2024 21:41

Back in the day, Pret did a sandwich that was red pepper and hummus with Béarnaise sauce on walnut bread and it’s still the best sarnie I’ve ever eaten.

CwmYoy · 03/10/2024 21:41

Caerphilly cheese and raspberry jam.

Hobbesmanc · 03/10/2024 21:42

Beefy super noodles microwaved until there's no liquid and they are all gungy. Stir in a half tin drained tuna. Soft thick cut bread or bread roll. Thickly buttered. Yum

Wolfpa · 03/10/2024 21:42

Not a sandwich but I quite like a slice of cheddar in a hot cross bun. People often give me a strange look when eating it.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 03/10/2024 21:43

Another DM special is lettuce and salt sandwich. She also likes mash, gravy, beans (either baked or green) and bread. 😆

Banana sandwich and tomato sandwich- but presuming these are common sandwich fillings!

Usernameno1234567 · 03/10/2024 21:43

Peanutbutter, garlic and gherkins

StaunchMomma · 03/10/2024 21:43

Agree re houmous and grated carrot. Delish!

This is normal in the US but not so much here - peanut butter and pickles. The Mrs Elswood pickled cucumber slices in UK supermarkets are unreal in a PB sandwich.

I also like cheese and jam.

My son likes cheerio sandwiches.

skyfalldown · 03/10/2024 21:43

coleslaw and crisps!
