Unusual but delicious sandwich fillings

I had a cheese sandwich today and had run out of pickle. So I scanned the pantry and decided to try a bit of mint sauce. Delicious!

What other fillings am I missing out on?

Beefy super noodles microwaved until there's no liquid and they are all gungy. Stir in a half tin drained tuna. Soft thick cut bread or bread roll. Thickly buttered. Yum

How shitfaced were you to come up with that one 😂

Marytherose · 03/10/2024 21:45

Marmite and banana sandwiches are surprisingly good

Also grated cheddar with sliced beetroot and salad cream

Peanutbutter, garlic and gherkins

We literally posted PB & pickles in the same minute.

And here I was thinking I was unusual 😂

Cheese savoury.

Chopped up whatevers left in the fridge. I like various veg with thr inclusion of an onion, grated cheese and mayo to bind it all, DH will add some roast scraps to his.
Served very thickly in a baguette

ChungKing · 03/10/2024 21:46

Just recalled the time we had some leftover cheese-topped mashed potatoes which we reheated and loved into a hot buttered baguette. Divine.

Imisscoffee2021 · 03/10/2024 21:46

Marmite and pease pudding. Had it for years then saw they brought out some pre packaged! Mashed potato and ketchup, like a sad and furtive chip butty but still delicious!

Mature cheddar and orange marmalade. Wonderful.

You beat me to it.

Also cheese and honey. Has to be a sharp tasty cheese in both cases (crumbly Lancashire works well too).

Crunchy peanut butter and Heinz sandwich spread.

PussGirl · 03/10/2024 21:47

Cream cheese and strawberry jam with black pepper

LondonFox · 03/10/2024 21:48

These fake crab sticks, mayo and spring onion.

Ladyof2024 · 03/10/2024 21:48

Cheese and slices of raw onion. Sliced banana and chocolate spread. Mashed up tuna with Mayo and sweet corn.

BeachRide · 03/10/2024 21:49

Cheese and lemon curd. Really yummy!

BaronessOrczy · 03/10/2024 21:50

Proper ham (preferably thin sliced gammon left over from a weekend roast) on wholemeal bread which has been spread with a thin layer of salted butter and then topped with sliced pickled onion

Fishfinger, mayo and sweet chilli sauce

Brie, bacon and sliced dates in a warm baguette

Plus another vote for hummus with sundried tomatoes. That’s tomorrow’s lunch sorted.

Friendofdennis · 03/10/2024 21:51

Brown bread and butter topped with banana cinnamon and honey Press down buttery bread slice on top for the cinnamon powder to ooze into the honey in other words a sandwich ha ha

Cheese and lemon curd. Really yummy!

I loved this as a child, lemon curd was called lemon cheese so it was a cheese and lemon cheese sandwich.

Really hungry now.

Thindog · 03/10/2024 21:55

Sliced oranges sprinkled with sugar.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 03/10/2024 21:55

Tongue and Branston.

Bananamanlovesyou · 03/10/2024 21:56

I once had a Wensleydale and Carrot Chutney on brown ready made sarnie from a petrol station near my house. I used to get them quite a bit until they stopped making them. I’ve never seen them again. That was over 10 years ago and I still think about them 😂😂😂

Deyjxh · 03/10/2024 21:57

Clearly it has to be horseradish sauce; cheese+horseradish: ham + horseradish: chicken and Horseradish and if you want to be traditional beef and horseradish. I believe the waitrose now see beetroot and horseradish.

All food shout have horse radish!!!

Glooop · 03/10/2024 21:58

Tuna mixed with finely diced red onion + balsamic vinegar = crunchy, sweet and savoury.

Pleiades2020 · 03/10/2024 21:58

Peanut butter and beetroot

Emma330912 · 03/10/2024 21:58

Hummus & marmite works well too, homemade hummus put on really thick

I realise I am inherently weird but WHHHHHYYYYY put sweet and savoury things together?
Savoury is yum and sweet is... (not to my taste)

BreatheAndFocus · 03/10/2024 22:01

Peanut butter, strawberry jam and chip shop chips. Sounds mad but it’s delicious - salty, fruity, yummy!

Boursin, avocado and jalapeño

Baked beans (cold), mashed with grated cheddar and very finely chopped onion

Hummus, mango and rocket

Muchtoomuchtodo · 03/10/2024 22:01

2 of my favourites are onion bhajee with mango chutney and grated cheese. Or fishfingers with mayo in one slice of bread, red sauce on the other and thinly sliced cheese in the middle with the fish fingers.

Both are delicious!
