Unusual but delicious sandwich fillings

I had a cheese sandwich today and had run out of pickle. So I scanned the pantry and decided to try a bit of mint sauce. Delicious!

What other fillings am I missing out on?

Tuna, cheese and jalapeños 😋

Banana in a sandwich is just wrong 😑

I've never been a fan, but lots of people I know from growing up in Ireland in the 80s enjoyed banana sandwiches!

I like soft cheese such as Boursin or Roule on warm plain croissants. I also like croissants better with honey and butter than jam and butter.

I like Jacque Pepin's radish or onion sandwich, if you use the right bread and butter they are superb.

Cream cheese and strawberry. Strawberries go with quite a lot of things actually; I read The Folk of the Farawy Tree and at one point they're at the Land of Tea Parties and the sign on the sandwich says something like 'sardine and strawberry'. Not actually tried that one, mind!

Mature cheddar and orange marmalade. Wonderful.

Cheese and marmite, though that's not super rare.

Bolognese sauce. Need to time it right, and it's messy, but spoon some on buttered bread and fold it over whilst dinner is cooking. Yum 😋

Chicken fajita mix in a sandwich with guac.

LOL, I've done that with sauce. So decadent.

Cheese and mustard.

Sometimes I slice up pimento-stuffed olives, place them on some toasted bread and top with cheese, then pop in the oven for a bit. So meaty and filling.

Jalapeño hummus and sun-dried tomato, or peanut butter and grated carrot (or cucumber) with a sprinkle of sea salt and chili flakes.

I personally don’t think either of these are word but everyone always comments on them!

waltzingparrot · 03/10/2024 21:22

My favourite is peanut butter, sliced banana and Branston pickle on white baguette.

You’d love those Tayto cheese and onion chocolate bars that were a thing a while ago!

Mashed potatoes with onion gravy the next day!

notacooldad · 03/10/2024 21:27

Not rare but my fav is soft cheese, dates and walnuts on a seeded bread.

Baked beans. According to DM.

Absolutely delicious!!!

OldTinHat · 03/10/2024 21:27

Jam and banana in a toasted sarnie. YUM!!!!

Judellie · 03/10/2024 21:27

I had to look up Fluff @Evtheria. I would not buy something called Fluff, just makes me think of bits of fluff on floors and stuff.
However I don't like marshmallows anyway and I detest peanut butter so that sandwich wouldn't work for me whatever it was called. Each to their own tho.

Change to lemon and lime marmalade and you've got me... best with wensleydale

Sugargliderwombat · 03/10/2024 21:28

Oh my favourite pregnancy food was a Tesco value baked bean and cheese pasty in cheap white bread 😋😋😋😋😋👌

My dad used to make Bovril and lettuce sandwiches which were really tasty.

Sounds like one of my favourites: marmite, lettuce and walnut sandwiches.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 03/10/2024 21:30

Tuna mayo, red onions, gherkin, mango chutney

Discovered when pregnant and loved since
