Is anyone else reading threads now thinking this reads like an AI bot?

I'm honestly not a conspiracy theorist but I’m reading recent threads on Active and they just read like ChatGPT has written them. There is something off about them. It’s like some new level trolling is going on.

if it’s just me I will accept it as I refuse to engage with them anyway.

I thought the mix two things to get a new thing ones yesterday were a bit strange, by the same user.

ssd · 03/10/2024 09:37

I've thought that for a while

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 03/10/2024 10:23

I can’t name threads as I know that’s not allowed but I’m suspicious about at least three current ones.

There have been a couple, yes. It's obvious with some of the odd word choices (like 'exclaimed' instead of 'said'). But as it improves it'll get harder for us to tell. It's much worse on FB. I like history and archeology, and some of the rubbish written.... Inaccurate and really bad grammar as well. But the comments all say how interesting it is.

Devilsmommy · 03/10/2024 10:30

I've noticed this the past week. I'll read a thread that Im sure is genuine. Then a few hours later there's another one with a very similar story but it just reads so stilted and fake. They're really easy to spot too

SerendipityJane · 03/10/2024 10:30

Are you a senior 😀

FerienInLipizza · 03/10/2024 10:37

Actually, now you mention it, last week I was looking at one and thinking that there was something off about it.

FatOaf · 03/10/2024 10:38

This has been the case for a while, though, hasn't it?

Before that, they read like the old "readers' letters" pages from Just Seventeen or Men Only: obviously written by members of the editorial staff.

Ineedanewsofa · 03/10/2024 10:40

I think I’ve spotted the same ones, they all read a bit like the letter Joey wrote using a thesaurus in Friends 🤣
One that contains a link to a particularly ugly dress by any chance?!

olderbutwiser · 03/10/2024 10:46

And often so looooooong

KohlaParasaurus · 03/10/2024 10:52

Yes. It would be surprising if this didn't happen.

Happyinarcon · 03/10/2024 10:59

Yes, it’s been going on for a while across many websites. I engage anyway because I assume my comment will be read by real people and it might help.

SerendipityJane · 03/10/2024 11:06

LLMs (it's not AI) have already passed about 40% of the general population in terms of literacy and logic. All being turbo charged by the hordes of people who are being hoodwinked into "Harnessing the power of AI" that I see on an hourly basis in my various feeds. Of course Wix and Grammarly are egging you on. The quicker you adopt them, the quicker you can go.

Now, where's that spigot wrench ?

Edingril · 03/10/2024 11:16

Yes ir is very obvious,I reply like I would normally usually briefly

But people do seem to want to live others dramas though I don't get it and they take it very personally no matter how obviously fake it is

MrsForgetalot · 03/10/2024 11:19

It’s been happening for a while. They're very tedious. I’d love to do a study of trolling trends on mumsnet.

HRTQueen · 03/10/2024 11:20

yes lots of answers are very wordy and read like a text book

then the person announces they work as XXX in this field give an opinion and its a completely different writing style

its not hard to spot

It's all grist to the mill.

Eventually we'll end up where "AI" (thats LLMs to me and you) are exactly as smart as the shite they were trained on. Then the "filtering" will start, and people will discover how to navigate them through the gaps where content has been removed or erased.

Oh what fun.

Theycantallbecomspiracytheories · 03/10/2024 11:22

Ooohh which ones?

HighPrecisionGhosts · 03/10/2024 11:25

Yes. Agree. It makes me feel sad when another poster puts their heart and soul into a response.

StrongFemaleCharacter · 03/10/2024 11:48

Yes, this has been going on for a little while, there is just something off about them. Hard to put a finger on but too long and detailed and the wording is not quite right.

Chowtime · 03/10/2024 11:54

Yes it's been happening a while now but definately becoming more common.

I've also noticed a LOT of russian propaganda around.

NoraLuka · 03/10/2024 11:55

I’ve noticed that sometimes there is a thread about something quite random, my MIL keeps bringing her own food to my house (made up example, I can’t remember any real ones) and then over the next couple of days more threads appear on the same topic but with minor differences. Like I’ve organised a picnic and my MIL will only eat her own food, or is it okay to take my own food to MIL’s house? Don’t know if it’s AI or a coincidence, or just a sign that I should spend less time on MN!

KievLoverTwo · 03/10/2024 12:01

Can someone please explain to me what the point of these AI threads is?

NunyaBeeswax · 03/10/2024 12:02

I'm finding that I believe fewer and fewer posts and replies as the days go on.

I also think there's getting to be so much repeated / very similar threads that they must be AI generated somehow. (Especially on Style and Beauty. I'm probably imagining it tbf but there seems to be a 'comfortable flat boots' thread every day and the same brands get linked too over and over.)

QuietLieDown · 03/10/2024 12:08

Yup.

Their prevalence seems to be increasing exponentially. Used to be that I’d occasionally wonder if I had spotted a thread that was AI generated. Now I feel like I have to sift through them to occasionally spot an actual human one.
