London activity in December near Kew

Hello, I’m taking the family to London for the weekend in December which I’m aware might be very busy!! We are staying right near Kew and doing the illumination trail.
I will have my partner, my nearly 3 year old and nearly 1 year old. We’re also planning on the Natural History Museum as it seems like a very straight forwards tube ride.

My question is are there any other small kid friendly activities which are easy enough for a day trip from Kew? We don’t want to be spending too much time on transport or navigating any tube changes etc. I looked at Hamleys and this looked like quite a journey. Also the Paddington experience would be easy to get to but think my two are a little young to get the best of it for the price tag.
Thank you!

The Science Museum (right next to NHM!) has an INCREDIBLE play space for that age called The Garden. Free entry (just book in advance).

There's a fab bus route for seeing the London lights, the 139 bus. DS adored it when he was that age! Literally just a regular London bus which happens to run a route under pretty lights. londonist.com/london/christmas-in-london/how-to-see-london-s-christmas-lights-by-bus

  • You could do this in reverse, so take the District Line to Embankment, cross the bridge (bonus of seeing the London eye at night!), get the bus from Waterloo all the way back to Oxford St. It also stops outside Hamleys so if you wanted to/felt up for it on the day you could stop there (but it will be rammed!).
