Found a lump on the side of my left breast

Just that really. I needed somewhere to talk about this.

I have the GP today at 2pm.

I know 9 out of 10 are harmless, but I still felt such a sinking feeling to find it. The side of my breast is sore/tender which is why I went looking.

I'm in Ireland so the pathways here might be slightly different, but would anyone like to share their experiences?

Gp will refer as urgent to breast clinic……in England the aim would be to see you within 2 weeks ……it’s generally a one stop shop….so see consultant and if needed have mammogram and or ultrasound and any biopsies needed….you would leave there being told no concerns ( and that would be 9 out of 10 people)..,,if something sinister is seen and biopsies, then the doctors will generally tell you if they suspect cancer…..they are very open and transparent ….i would tell you not to worry, but I know you will….keep yourself busy….the odds are on your side….wishing you well

Thanks so much for your reply @Kitkat1523

I know it's probably nothing but the anxiety is working overtime. Appreciate your advice x

Just bumping in case anyone else has any advice.

I've used search to read loads of other threads but most of them weren't updated by the OP.

Sore and tender is often a good sign that it is a fluid filled cyst , fingers crossed its the case . They tend to pop up before the menopause .

LolaJ87 · 02/10/2024 11:36

I really hope you're right @jessycake

Google says cysts likely that are most common after 35 and I'm 37 so it makes sense.

My husband and I were starting TTC a second child. We'll have to put a pin in it until I get this cleared up. Hoping it's not a sign of menopause on the way, but most women in my family were late to menopause so hoping I still have time to TTC. A whole other avenue of worry...

@LolaJ87 No it doesn't mean menopause is imminent , but I suppose as we get older we are subject to hormonal changes . Its funny how the odds of 9 out of ten feel like the other way round while you are waiting for an appointment, it's an awful feeling x

LolaJ87 · 02/10/2024 11:54

Yeah I've had a few months of ups and downs with things so feeling fairly anxious anyway, so this is just awful timing (would there ever be good timing though?)

Thanks so much for your support x

I just wanted to update in case someone else reads this in a search for info.

My GP examined me and easily found the lump. She isn't too concerned about it but referred me on to the breast clinic at the hospital anyway. They phoned today, and gave me an appointment for the 16th (so 2 weeks from referral).
