My son is desperate to go up the eiffel tower at night ...

  1. is it worth it
  2. Is it escalator the whole way
  3. Would you advise a Seine tour also as part of the ticket?

Umm if you don't like heights then the Eiffel tower is not for you. It is very, very high....it's very exposed and, well, high. You climb a bit then can get the lift to the very top. At night it'd be pretty but you will still get a sense of how high up you are!

Also beware the pickpockets and scams and "sign this petition" which is a distraction technique to steal your bag

(Ps i was not a fan of the Eiffel tower)

I climbed to the first level and was petrified. Got no further.
Wouldn't advise if scared of heights!

I’m afraid of heights and I did it on a school trip and no it’s not something I’d volunteer myself to do again personally.

Go up Tour Montparnasse instead, it's a fab view in 4 directions and you can see the Eiffel Tower! You just have to be ok with a lift. You might feel safer as you can move away from the windows or the edge of the viewing platform. Feels less exposed.

I hate heights and you wouldn't get me anywhere up that mofo!

You have the choice of the sommet, which is the most expensive and accessible by lift. Otherwise, the second floor is imho high enough, and you can reach by lift or stairs (cheapest but not sure on availability at nighttime). All these will be needed to be booked well in advance.

Personally I prefer the Tour Montparnasse; much cheaper, more interactive, and offers great views of Paris including the Tour Eiffel.

Catacombs can be done any time, since it’s dark whatever time you do it.

For boat tours I prefer the vedettes de pont neuf.

I've been to the top many many times - lift or stairs to the second floor then another, much smaller lift to the top. The queue is in the open air, can be quite exposed.

My ex husband didn't get as far as the first level on the stairs. The whole structure is mostly in the open, if you have a fear of heights it really doesn't sound like you would enjoy it

Have a look on YouTube for videos of the ride in the lifts and what it's like in each level.

I am just back from Paris with my 11 year old and we went about 10 pm. 2 lifts to get to the top and the views were lovely but my son was scared at the top, probably not helped by it being windy too. Depending on the age of your son, they may question his age (they asked if I had a passport for my son as he’s quite tall for his age, which we had left in the hotel as he was in their infant category but let him on once able to mention his date of birth). Was it worth it? It’s nice to say we had done it but wouldn’t do it again. Cost about €80 euros for 2 adults and a child. Walk to Trocadero was good for views of the Eiffel Tower too. Didn’t do the Seine cruise but had a great time, was there Friday to Monday

I think I got as far as the second level and as pp have said, it’s exposed so that really unnerved me. Felt so unwell and was clinging to the wall.
During the day you can go to the roof in Galeries Lafayette, use the central escalators it’s such a beautiful store. Stunning views from the roof.

I'm terrible with heights and walked up the Eiffel Tower ok. Only went to the second level which was enough. There was loads of space so you didn't need to go near the edge. We got the lift back down though.
