Is there a way of blocking certain topics?

Yes, you can. It's in settings > more settings > talk settings --> scroll down to manage hidden threads and topics

I've blocked a few in the past! Weight loss threads can be too triggering so I tend to block those, but annoyingly there are SO many, it takes ages to do
