There has been a miracle in my house!

DD15 has had a shower. I genuinely cannot remember the last time she washed. She doesn’t even wash her hands so this is epic. Reckon it’s because she’s started a pre 16 college course. Hopefully be the making of her 🙂

Usually when this happens I assume they have a crush on someone . Especially boys they start showers and covering themselves in lynx lol

Pedallleur · 16/09/2024 09:50

what teenage girl doesnt shower? They are usually demanding 3 a day plus 2 x changes of clothes, a fresh towel per shower

DatingDinosaur · 16/09/2024 10:16

Ahh, yes. She has a crush.

Either that or someone has told her she stinks.

Strobbery · 16/09/2024 10:22

Be careful what you wish for!
My previously soap-dodging 14 YO has totally flipped: she is permanently in the shower now and has lotions, potions, gels, anti frizzes, fixers, primers, moisturisers, removers, toners, every conceivable type of makeup…

It’s very expensive.

ShirtyBertie · 16/09/2024 10:35

Great news OP. I hope things continue to get better for her and for you xx

TealSapphire · 16/09/2024 10:38

Yes @strobbery my DS's also about that age switched from being nagged to shower to sometimes showering multiple times a day. And the haircare!!

DD is on the spectrum & was diagnosed with mild depression so self care has been very low on her list of priorities. She refuses to go to the doctors, dentist, optician & hairdressers😢

Oh how this made me laugh! It’s just so true with girls 😁😁

It’s really difficult navigating asd. Showers ‘hurt’ my dd, baths make her too hot and feeling faint. The sensory side alone can be huge, never mind adding poor mental health on top.
🤗🤗 to you and your dd

One of mine has changed a toilet roll (instead of just balancing it on the empty one)

I reckon there’s a bright star over our house right now

@RabbitsRock As well as the 14YO I mentioned above, I also have an 18YO with ASD, so I understand. It’s really hard.

When DD18 decides to get clean it literally takes all day. She will clean the whole bathroom thoroughly first, take in a huge pile of towels and several changes of clothes. She’ll also only use new and unopened shampoo, conditioners and body wash. She starts planning the whole procedure the day before!
