What was iy about this one that led you to give in @BIWI ?

I just couldn't work out what the main theme was - I was convinced it was something to do with language and/or folk traditions. The hints I took were, I thought, helpful - but they didn't steer me anywhere near the actual theme/answer!

... and even c+ping the very long sentence I had in the first paragraph didn't give me any clues!
