U.K. honeymoon ideas?

Shopaholic100 · 05/09/2024 08:36

My friend is looking for a nice honeymoon destination in the U.K, to spend a few days after the wedding, the actual honeymoon is later due to work commitments. If you had a UK honeymoon or can recommend a short romantic break, please share. They are based near London. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Holkham Hall lodges - very romantic if you want to be by yourself and you can drive across the estate to Dinner in the Victoria Inn

Few stately homes in the area but mostly its beach walks and nice pubs. Lovely if the weather is good but need accommodation with a fire and a curl up vibe if the weather is grim. Victoria Inn is just that.

Some great ideas, I’ll pass them on. The Dorset coastline is beautiful but she has already been a number of times. Bath sounds good and not too far, don’t think she’s been there. Will take a look at the others too, feel free to add to the list.

Edinburgh might be ok to fly to, has anyone been? Any nice hotels? What is the transport like in the city?

Some nice hotels in the New Forest.

Limewood, Chewton Glen, The Pig

Nice in October as full of trees.

We married in October and spent honeymoon in a cottage in Yorkshire Dales, having had a long haul holiday to see some relatives earlier in year (booked before we got engaged).

The weather was mixed but we still reminisce about the wet bike ride alongside the beautiful cottage and stunning scenery.

We went back to the cottage 2 yrs later with our 9mth old son, and had our 25th anniversary in the same area.

On that trip, we walked past our honeymoon cottage, which is now privately owned, ending up chatting to the owner, and our kids joined us for a celebratory meal in a hotel we had eaten in on honeymoon.

Hope your friend has a Fab October wedding and honeymoon.

Don't do what I did. My Now ExH organised it all and told me it would be a surprise. A week at my dad's house. Romantic ...

Oh dear, probably makes sense why he’s an Ex. Would extinguish any romantic feelings.

Aww that sounds so lovely. I love the Yorkshire Dales, I visited a lot as a child especially the Ingleton area and have some wonderful memories. Where about did you go? If you don’t mind sharing.

@Shopaholic100

The cottage was in a small village called Worton, on the road between Hawes and Aysgarth.

At the back, it overlooked over the river valley to the hills behind, with walks and bike rides direct from cottage and close to Hawes, Askrigg, Aysgarth etc.

We still go back to area regularly and I like Ingleton area too.

I’ve also sent you a PM.

Train or fly to Edinburgh. Stay in the city centre. We walked everywhere but transport will be fine.

It's probably the higher end of mid-range, but The Gallivant at Camber Sands was absolutely beautiful when we stayed. Incredible food and drink and right next to the beach. I think it'd be lovely for a UK honeymoon.
