Has anyone been to Istanbul in August?

What's it like. We haven't been abroad in ten years as a family and my kids have chosen Istanbul as a not so expensive holiday destination. (I hope it's not too expensive!)

We aren't really a chill in the pool type of people and love sightseeing and being out and about. Bearing this in mind, is Istanbul ridiculously hot in August to be doing excursions and trips and being out and about?

Should I just wait to go to Istanbul in more cooler months like spring / autumn?

It's boiling hot and very very busy. Expect to queue up for hours if you're purchasing tickets to attractions. They tend to hike up prices when it's busy so you'd be paying more for taxis etc. I'd say wait until the weather is cooler and go off-peak as you'll enjoy it more.

Yes very hot and very humid. There is also a fair amount of climbing to some sights. I really wouldn't recommend it in August. It is very pleasant in spring and autumn.

Why Istanbul? Is there a particular reason?

The heat is oppressive due to the buildings, I wouldn't go in August.
