I always do with the kids clothes but sometimes CBA to do the adults.
Is there a hard and fast rule?
I mean, we've not succumbed to any chemical burns or mysterious rashes ~ yet ~ 😳

Only if it smells chemically straight of the packaging
Otherwise no

longdistanceclaraclara · 18/08/2024 15:24

Nope. My mil washed my baby clothes, that pissed me off. I do wash towels though.

Doggymummar · 18/08/2024 15:27

No. Never. Many things are ruined by washing them, wouldn't do that to something new,

Blueberrycreampie · 18/08/2024 15:28

Maybe not trousers or jumpers but most other things I do.

Ponderingwindow · 18/08/2024 15:30

Yes. If I don’t, I get rashes. Sometimes those rashes last weeks and require steroids.

Admittedly I have diagnosed allergies and very sensitive skin, but people really should think of people like me as canaries. We are reacting to something present in the clothes that probably isn’t good for you either.

Topseyt123 · 18/08/2024 15:41

No. Never. Can't be arsed with such bollocks.

Bobbotgegrinch · 18/08/2024 15:43

I do, I'm not worried about chemical burns, rashes etc. I just hate the feel of clothes until they've been washed a few times.

I also have a dislike of duvets etc until they're about 3 years old, at which point they become the new comfy duvets and my dislike has transferred to the new new one.

You've clearly not read the bazliilion threads ShuvieTupya apparently has! 😉

It really has been done to death though.

There is of course no rule about it as you ask. A lot of people don't for babies, some carry on doing it for adults.

Some of us (me) did it for our PFBs then forgot/couldn't be arsed for DC2 and have never done it for adults or older children.

Someone will come along to tell you that all new clothes are covered in formaldehyde/rat piss/other people's BO and dirty hands/other undefined "chemicals" and consider it utterly horrific not to wash them.

A lot of us (me) will remain unmoved by the above.

BeaRF75 · 18/08/2024 16:45

Never in my many decades of clothes-wearing. I didn't even know it was a thing until I read it on here. Sounds like some people don't have enough to do!

ImWearingPantaloons · 18/08/2024 16:53

I do, new clothes smell funny.

Comedycook · 18/08/2024 16:55

Only underwear.

reluctantbrit · 18/08/2024 16:55

Always unless it is an emergency buy and I need to wear it immediately/the next day.

If I order online, the items smell when you take them out of the bag, some items are creased.

They just go into the wash whenever I wash similar colour or fabric items.

AgileGreenSeal · 18/08/2024 16:58

Fir myself, almost always unless I need something in a hurry. Always for children without fail.

thefamous5 · 18/08/2024 17:15

Nope. Never washed anything from the shop.

MrsMoastyToasty · 18/08/2024 17:16

Only stuff from 2nd hand shops.

theresnolimits · 18/08/2024 17:18

Never. Life is too short.

Underlig · 18/08/2024 17:25

No

PensivePencil · 18/08/2024 17:27

Nope.
