GCSE exam results - parent question

Scautish · 15/08/2024 19:21

My child gets their results next week

do parents go in with the child when they collect their envelope and get to be there when they open it or is it more normal for parents to wait outside?

i will do what my child wants me to do but I also want to do what’s “normal”
and not embarrass them in any way.

thank you for any guidance!

They usually collect the results with their friends and possibly some teachers, no parents (but then phone home asap as they will have been instructed!).

Attended results day for 22 years as a secondary school teacher. I hardly ever see a parent attend. Nowadays most pupils seem to collect results with their friends and phone parents.

Ok thank you both that is super helpful.

I do need to drive them to school because of distance but I will wait in car and not embarrass them!

im so glad I asked!

My son collected his GCSE's last year - he went with his friends & sent me a screen shot of his results when he was there. He said there were 'some' parents there, but not many, some also waited outside in their cars. Seems to be the norm for them to go with their friends.

We drove them there and waited in the car. With ds2 we went back in with him as he wanted to request a marking review and I had to complete a form for that.

My child is not the most reliable at remembering to phone but I hope in this instance they will. I also want to be on standby if results are not what they wanted.

My child will get their results by email at 8am. They will then get a call from a teacher at some point in the morning. They are planning to meet with friends at school then we have a couple of bits planned for the afternoon with their boyfriend and family

NoI got my results 20 years ago and parents didn’t go in. We went with our friends.

Good luck, I’m not there yet but it must be nerve wracking!

Yes, if you're driving them you wait in the car.

DH got a parking ticket when dd got her A level results because she was longer talking to friends and teachers than she'd anticipated. Don't do that.Grin
