Hello,

We are in Dorset (near Weymouth) for a week and would love to hear some recommendations of what to do, see and eat please. TIA

Sorry to hijack but could anyone recommend anything that they think a 3 year old might especially enjoy? We're based near Weymouth.

Durdle Door
Old Harry Rocks walk along the cliffs
Corfe Castle and cream tea at the national trust tea shop
Steam train from Swanage
New Forest is just nearby so definitely worth a visit

Quite a small place, but I thought Upwey Wishing Well and Water garden was lovely and it's really near Weymouth. Would combine well with a cream tea.

I'm not sure about right near the Weymouth area as I live nearer Bournemouth, but Farmer Palmer's is very popular with young families here. It's on the west side of Poole and Bournemouth. https://www.farmerpalmers.co.uk/

Dazedandconfusedma · 14/08/2024 09:08

farmer Palmer is a great shout - my 3 year old niece went a few weeks ago and, in the nicest possible way, she will not shut up about it!

mumwithallthebooks · 14/08/2024 16:40

Thanks so much guys!

Sorenlorrenson · 14/08/2024 16:54

Don't forget crabbing on Weymouth Harbour and fireworks on Weymouth beach on Monday nights.

Lulworth cove awsome.

Recently took the rib ride from Lulworth around the back of Durdle Door - brilliant!

Love Al Molo for food in Dorchester - for a treat.

Fish and Fritz is the best chippie in Weymouth - eat in or out. Dont forget Rossi's on Weymouth sea front for authentic Italian ice cream - it's legendary.

mumwithallthebooks · 14/08/2024 23:04

@CountryShepherd what's the rib ride?

TerrifiedandWorried · 14/08/2024 23:25

Nothe Fort is great

mumwithallthebooks · 14/08/2024 23:04

@CountryShepherd what's the rib ride?

RIB = rigid inflatable boat. They do tours from various places along the coast, along with more traditional boats 😀

Windywuss · 14/08/2024 23:38

Abbotsbury Subtropical Gardens

Chesil Beach.

Lyme Regis

Portland

Cantalever · 15/08/2024 00:56

Drive up to the clifftop at Ringstead, Fabulous coastal views and lovely cliff top walks.

mumwithallthebooks · 15/08/2024 01:17

@sarsaparillatree ah thank you for explaining that! I've seen those boats and wondered about safety for my rather boisterous toddler on one of those!

Nanana1 · 31/08/2024 10:52

Thanks everyone for the tips, we actually were very close to Dorchester which made exploring things a bit easier. Weather was generally good so focused on beach trips. Lovely part of the world & would definitely go back & explore more.

For anyone interested we did the below;

Fireworks at Weymouth
Rossi’s ice cream
Fish & chips at Marlboro

Durdle door/Lulworth Cove

Lyme Regis
Herbies fish & chips

West Bay
The Watch house

Corfe castle & cakes

Charmouth fossil hunting

Lots more food but can’t remember names.

You made some excellent calls there!

Might be a trek from Weymouth but Pecorama I think is an absolute hiddden gem - playgrounds, loads of open space, a little train ride - also Lyme Regis is a beautiful seaside town.

Pecorama 😀we used to take the DS's there all the time when they were kids - had some great days out there!

Maybe West Bay (along coast road to Bridport, amazing views) and walk over to Eype or Burton Bradstock. Lunch in cafe on beach.

Or along the coast a bit to Chideock, Seatown beach and lunch at The Anchor.
I'd second Abbotsbury Swannery, lovely.
Symondsbury is lovely too, with a nice NT cafe.

Threewheeler1 · 09/09/2024 09:42

Ooops!
I see you've already been.
Glad you had a lovely time & good list there!
