Potty train my 2y7m stubborn DS. He refuses to go to a potty a toilet

anytime we’ve tried he has accidents gets worked up or tries to hold them in

how do I potty train? Hes so anti going the loo and sometimes doesn’t even want me to take his nappy off

Just to add that DD was about 2.10 and DS was about 3.3

We had big issues with my DD withholding poo and it took a long time to resolve. My main advice would be to relax about it as much as possible. As a health visitor said to me “ your child will not go to university wearing nappies” You are well within the timescales for “normal” so don’t stress about that. My DD was definitely 3 when we started because I remember going on a big holiday and not wanting the uncertainty of her being unreliable with the flight etc so we left her in nappies for that. It was fine… you will crack it soon and you will able to look back at it in a few years and wonder what the angst was for.

Don't make a big thing of it and try potty training as such, keep it in the bathroom and ask him if he wants to try having a wee before he gets in the bath at night, or while you're going to the toilet check if he wants to go too. Just get him used to the idea that he might like to try it, even if he sits on it and doesn't do anything that's a win! I think keeping it in the bathroom normalises it more than expecting him to sit in the middle of the living room and try because they don't see anyone else go to the toilet there!

Honestly, just leave it a while. I tried potty training my DS about the same age, it felt like I spent my whole day saying do you need a poo lol. It was so frustrating, so I left it a few months. One day he was at the childminder (I think it was just before he turned 3) and he said to her I don't want to wear nappies, I want to wear pants and that was it, he decided himself.
