Secondary school bag help!!

Hi all,

My daughter starts secondary school in September, she’s our eldest so first time going through transition. I want to get her a “cool” bag (she isn’t aware really of things like this as she is autistic - I have asked what bag she wants and she just says what all the other kids have so I fit in!) unfortunately at 39 I have no clue what is cool and what’s not!!! Can anyone enlighten me as to what might be some good options?

Any advice on anything else I should be getting would also be very much appreciated ☺️

Mine (finishing Y7 and y10)! Both started with plain black sports wear branded rucsacs. Both moved to plain coloured Eastpack bags (their choice, Fc1 adopted an old one of mine) when their original bags ripped.

Nike black rucksack. Can’t go wrong with that!

From what I've seen the lads will have a back pack and almost all the girls have a bag like shoulder bag strap and then the handles to hold but don't actually put it on their shoulder much it's usually carried like on the fold of their arm and alot of river island such as

These are the type my niece Yr 9 and friends have and some of my friends daughters but I don't know enough to know what they do when they have p.e. 🤷‍♀️

I bought DD a fjallraven kanken when she started senior school. She's now 21 and it is currently in Portugal with her. They seem to last well to me but others on MN have said quality has deteriorated over recent years.

Might be no help but all kids round here (Ireland) have these…or possibly jansport bags. The books are so heavy they need a decent, comfy bag.

I bought myself a large Kanken when DD2 stopped using the buggy. 10 years later its very well used, and still going strong!

And as my dc have to Chromebooks for school we wanted proper waterproof bags.

I have an autistic daughter. She has her own distinct style at this point, but at the start of secondary, matching brands was really helpful. We still do it to some extent, but not as much.

North Face is king for bags at our school. They are actually good bags so that helps. Hers has lasted several years.
