A collection for the person who does the collections?!

Don't get me wrong, I'm always very happy to put a tenner in for the teachers collection each year.

But a parent on one of my
Kids' class WhatsApp groups has just started a splinter group WhatsApp group to collect for a gift to give the person who does the class collections for teachers.

Am I being mean, or is this faintly ridiculous?!

100% ridiculous. Id just ignore.

I don't know. There's one mum in DD's class who organises at least half the collections, is parent helper on every trip, always knows the answer to the random questions on the WhatsApp group - and does the same for her older two children's classes and does it all while being lovely and making sure everyone is included etc. I did say to DH that when our class are leaving primary school we should do a collection for her as she's given so much to the school and the class. It's years off for us though, who knows what will happen.

Haha! Worded like that, yes it does seem ridiculous.

But if this person is constantly putting themself out on behalf of the parents, then why not.

It's not like they're getting paid for their hard work, like the teachers are.

I was parent rep for 7 years and that involved always organising the collection and gifts as well as other things and I was so grateful when the parents in our class organised flowers to say thank you when we left - it meant a lot.

I will be doing the same in our current class where I am not involved! Just Y6 though, every year would be overkill.
