Volunteering in politics

Hi all,

Does anyone do any volunteering for a political organisation? Obviously you have the main parties, but also local/ national cause-driven groups.

I’ve always been interested in politics and used to have regular exposure many moons ago, eg interviewing politicians, visiting parliament etc. So main drive is to be involved in these conversations again and think about how to tackle issues such as obscene childcare cost, educational inequality etc and be active rather than passive. Side drive is meeting people with similar interests, as opposed to people that want to discuss celebrities and what’s on tv.

I’m just a bit concerned that everyone else will be a lot older than me (70+, I’m around 30 and would like to meet similar age peers) and that the only publicly advertised tasks are canvassing and envelope stuffing, whereas I’d like to do something more geared to my skills.

Background/ skills is law and formerly journalism, so skilled at tasks like reading and breaking down swaths of complex information, and writing/ visual comms. I think those tasks are usually only allocated to paid roles though?

If you’re involved in something, what’s your experience and what would you recommend? I’m not in London but have cities nearby.
