are refurbished phones worth it?

My iPhone is on its last legs and I need a new one!
I really don't want a phone contractor but the cost of a new phone is 🫨😵
Looking at the Apple refurbished phones. They have a brand new battery and shell, 1 year warranty etc etc.
has anyone bought refurbished before? Is it worth it?

I bought a refurbished iPhone phone from EE a couple of years ago. It was as good as new and still going strong

roses2 · 25/06/2024 21:54

My last two phones were refurbished from Ebay. As long as you buy from a reputable seller tlit should be very safe.

l3tsdanc3 · 25/06/2024 21:54

I got one from goffgaff refurbished. Still going strong 2 years later!

aSpanielintheworks · 25/06/2024 21:55

Mines a Samsung refurbished from Ebay, wasn't a mark on it when it arrived four years ago.
I'll never go on a contract again.

IDontHateRainbows · 25/06/2024 21:58

Bought two off Amazon supposedly excellent condition both were faulty

Got my money back but never again

vodkaredbullgirl · 25/06/2024 21:58

My DD got 1 no problems so far.

Bobbybobbins · 25/06/2024 22:08

We always have refurbished phones and iPad for the kids. All good so far.

kitsuneghost · 25/06/2024 22:10

Is there a reason you need an iPhone?
There are plenty phones cheaper than a refurbished iPhone.

C1N1C · 25/06/2024 22:11

I've bought two from Backmarket and they were excellent!

Me too, got DD an iPhone SE 2020 for £96 and it was pristine so got myself the SE 2022 for about 250, not a mark on it and going strong. The battery isn’t an official Apple battery in mine so when it starts to degrade I’ll replace with a proper one as only about £60. Doubt I’ll buy new again.

MissSookieStackhouse · 25/06/2024 22:30

My last iPhone was a refurbished one from Apple and it lasted better than the one I bought from new. Recently bought another refurbished one, this time from CeX - so far so good. It was immaculate and no concerns for far. (24 month guarantee in any case.) I won’t buy a new one again - expensive rip off when you can get a virtually new one for less than half the price.

BlowDryRat · 25/06/2024 22:31

I bought a refurbished Google Pixel from Giffgaff a few months ago. It looked brand new to me and hasn't had any problems so far.

maximist · 25/06/2024 22:33

I bought a refurbished iPhone 12 Pro direct from Apple a couple of years ago and it's been absolutely fine. I'd definitely buy refurbished from them again.

BarcardiWithGadaffia · 25/06/2024 22:37

A refurbished phone isnt a thing as such, there's no connection between anyone of them, it's like asking if anyone has bought a 2nd car and expecting that they are all the same

You would be buying one specific phone, how would its condition be related to any of the other thousands of refurbished phones sold every day?

What you should be asking is which seller has the best returns policy if you end up with a dud

thenightsky · 25/06/2024 22:39

I've only ever bought refurbished, never new. My current one is 6 years old (to me) and is still going strong. I just buy a sim contract for around £14 a month.

Borborygmus · 25/06/2024 22:40

I've bought a few 'Like New' refurbs, and they've all been as described.

blacksocks33 · 25/06/2024 22:40

@kitsuneghost yeah it's just personal preference, I love my iPhone and Apple products!

@BarcardiWithGadaffia I understand what you're saying! I guess they all have to be serviced to a certain standard so im just interested in others experiences!

Feel really motivated after reading these reviews! Im looking at getting one directly from Apple but will look around too.

I bought one outright from 02 couple of years ago and had scratches all over it, bad battery life ect so returned it, bought another refurbished one for my child but this time on contract and is as good as new.

RoobarbAndMustard · 25/06/2024 22:43

I bought a refurbished iPhone 8 nearly 4 years ago from Amazon and it still working well but will need to replace soon as updates will be ending.

Edenmum2 · 25/06/2024 22:44

Yes I always do, they tend to start dying around the 2 year mark but I found this with brand new ones also. I haven't noticed any tangible difference.

lovemycbf · 25/06/2024 22:46

We have used music magpie a few times without problems

There are plenty phones cheaper than a refurbished iPhone.

iCloud is connected so all apps, photos, passwords. Also, nicer interface than a cheap phone.

Was actually looking at refurbs on Apple site myself today - iPhone 12 for £400 isn't bad at all. I paid £600 for an iPhone 11 three years ago. In terms of quality, I'd trust apple to deliver, it will be good as new

maw1681 · 25/06/2024 22:48

Got an iPhone for DD on back market, all fine

Cooroo · 25/06/2024 22:49

I got my iPhone 11 refurbished from Music Magpie 18 months ago. Really pleased with it.
