Just stop oil morons

I've just seen 2 just stop oil idiots have vandalised stonehenge. Wtf is wrong with these utter morons?! I actually feel really angry and just a day before the solstice. I don't understand what they think this kind of stupidity achieves? Certainly not support for their cause and beliefs. The historian commenting said it best 'Parade your concern for the planet by destroying endangered lichens. Sympathy transmuted into utter loathing.'

The ones that disrupt weddings annoy me . How selfish and rude to try and mar someone's big day and happy occasion

It was incomprensively thick when they did that to 2 people who are supporters of eco rights and sustainability last week too

On the summer Solstice too, when they knew it would be in the spotlight. They don't allow people to touch them, to preserve the lichen which is very old and very rare and these twats come along and destroy it!

Exactly, I'm sure those in the neolithic period didn't crack out the oil and gas to build it and the people who go for the solstice would generally be earth loving so they've really only fucked themselves over with such a disgraceful decision

Vandalising Stonehenge is unbelievably dumb. The druids/hippies/new age travellers etc that venerate it would (I imagine) be natural allies. Stonehenge is also thousands of years old so has no connection whatsoever with global warming or capitalism. It was built by people who lived a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with their surroundings.

Climate change is an emergency and eventually protesters will be on the right side of history but not by pulling aggressive stunts. They need to put their energy into educating people. As it stands, they are harming their message and making themselves look like lunatics.

LadyMuckRake · 19/06/2024 15:26

They damaged stonehenge? Good grief. Idiots.

Yeh, the attempt to try and ruin Olivia and Hughie G's wedding was pure nastoopid

Protesting is fine. Criminal damage is not. Throw the book at these morons.

Goldenbear · 19/06/2024 15:31

It isn’t about the connection to capitalism though is it, it is about shocking people into noticing them and their cause - presumably.

It still doesn't make sense though? Why would you want to destroy something, specifically something so irrelevant to and only hurts people to do so

The entitlement makes me sick

GennyLec · 19/06/2024 15:33

The wanton damage is shocking. I have no real idea of their cause, so that's a fail isn't it. Stupid people.

MagnetCarHair · 19/06/2024 15:33

What the fuck is actually wrong with them?

Cocolapew · 19/06/2024 15:33

What utter wankers

A lot apparently. Seeing that photo of stonehenge like that appalled me

Stopping oil and climate change isn't part of their agenda and never was. They exist to tear everything down and replace it all with what they think how things should be. Basically they are spotty-faced, snot goblins who hate the world and the fact that they exist. Teenage angst propelled into the media spotlight. Don't give them the attention they crave and they might just go away.

One of them was 73.... Which is sad, you'd hope they have more sense

Am I missing something. I see a photo of some orange powder, which reportedly dyed cornflour.
Where is the vandalism to Stonehenge?

Just stop oil webinars are public events where they talk about their policies and they are very clear that they wish their supporters to avoid doing anything that would break the law, so I would be surprised if any actual damage has been done.

Probably a retired university lecturer.

GasPanic · 19/06/2024 15:38

There are better ways of protesting than wrecking stuff.

They go on about protecting the environment for future generations. But how about protecting our art and cultural heratige too ?

That's the argument, but it doesn't get people talking about 'the cause'. It gets people, like me, to think 'they are cunts' and as a result I've no interest in their cause.

As an aside, I work in custody and I the ones I countered were walking cliches - posh, double-barrelled surnames, vegan, in uni doing art degrees with seemingly little life experience. They don't have a clue.

In the interests of factual accuracy, can we be clear what was wrecked?

rainbowruthie · 19/06/2024 15:40

Absolutely outrageous I hope that they get custodial sentences Angry

Trewa · 19/06/2024 15:40

They’re selfish idiots.

Ohhhh right. The orange substance that'd been all over them since the neolithic period, right? Oh no wait.... Ffs

If I threw anything over you, it's assault. People shouldn't be thick twats a vandalise things that aren't theirs

Eta unless they are qualified archaeologists or geologists who have taken samples of that exact stone they threw it over, they have no idea of the damage it would cause. They don't care
