Sadly, not the city in the South of France, but the use of the word:
I'll make a nice cup of tea/cake
Have yourself a nice sit down
I was wearing a nice blouse

No-one is going to say "i'll make you a horrid cup of tea, or admit to wearing an ugly top, so why use it?
Habit?
Just something we say without even registering that we say it?

Answers on a (nice!) postcard please!

There's a lot of talk at our house that makes little or no sense. 😏
A regular is "do you want a nice cup of tea (or whatever) or a kick in the pants"? I don't even know how that started, probs one of the kids many moons ago.
