I'm really stuck in a rut with life lately, I need some ideas on how to spice up my day! Any suggestion is welcome 😅

OP posts:

Walk the dog
Read a book
Have a coffee
All small but great things.

NotAllowed · 13/06/2024 23:31

I buy a bouquet of fresh flowers from the supermarket every week for my living room

NotAgainWilson · 13/06/2024 23:34

I’m also stuck in a rut. I have been travelling, volunteering and studying over the last year but what I am finding stupidly uplifting of late is seeing my stupid dog doing zoomies in the park, showing an unparalleled joie de vivre for pleasures as simple as rolling herself in fox poo. Such a happy soul, she is.

minipie · 13/06/2024 23:36

Good coffee
Reading (not on a screen)
At the moment - smelling all the roses in people’s front gardens
Perfume

annabofana · 13/06/2024 23:37

I planted some seeds and bulbs in pots on my balcony and I go out to check on their progress each morning.

RicherThanYews · 13/06/2024 23:38

I keep an embroidery hoop next to my spot on the sofa with a little project that I can just pick up and put down without needing to rush and finish it. I'm happiest when I have several craft things on the go. I alternate between themes of deeply religious and cute/profane.

HelloHen · 13/06/2024 23:38

Go for a walk, rain or shine.

Decent coffee

CrazylazyJane · 13/06/2024 23:46

I made a playlist on my phone called Happy- it's songs that I know give me a boost. It eclectic and not to everyone's tastes but I whack it on some mornings in the car of on the drive home from work.

Walk. A brisk 5km every lunchtime. I WFH & walk out into the countryside from my village. However crap the weather is, I just do it. It’s lovely watching nature & the changing seasons. It does me good physically, improves my mood & makes me feel better mentally.

"Spice up" your day? Have a look on lovehoney and get your credit card out!

zeddybrek · 13/06/2024 23:51

I work from home and spend a lot of time at my desk. I made a bag to put on my desk and it stays there. I have cuticle oil, nail file, a really nice Neom hand cream from TK Maxx, small massager which I use on my scalp, neck or legs, lip balm and other small pamper paraphernalia. So if I'm on a call or need a few mins break I use something from my bag. It makes me so happy that I can do a bit of self care without it eating into any other part of my day. Oh I have recently added a small pot of Coconut oil for my very dry hair and clear nail polish.

stayathomer · 13/06/2024 23:53

I’ve started making lists for my day again using a nice notebook!

When my feet are tired I stick them in a basin of warm water and moisturise and use boots foot spray after

Walking the dog(some fab scenery at the moment!)

This is embarrassing but I’ve started dancing along to a song a day as if I’m from a dance crew or something- if anyone was to see it it’s a million times less professional than the original but I get a kick out of it and it gives me the excercise endorphins!!

Watching/reading comedy

getting the newspaper once a week

UserNumber56 · 13/06/2024 23:58

I like to do the New York Times puzzles, particularly the Spelling Bee. It's a challenge to see if I can get to Genius level within 10 minutes.

Catsmere · 14/06/2024 00:03

Play with the cats with the feathered wand toy I bought them (like Da bird but cheaper).
Have cuddles with them in the evening.
Other things that make me happy aren't daily, they're several times a week - going to my knitting group, for instance, then having lunch at a cafe.

SkiingIsHeaven · 14/06/2024 00:04

Walk the dogs.
Hug and squeeze my husband.
Check on my seeds and plants.
Spend some time outside.

I agree with doing the NY Times puzzles! I play wordle, connections and strands.

LegArmpits · 14/06/2024 00:13

Wordle, Connections and Spelling Bee.
Play car stereo loud on work journey.
Play piano.
Drawing.
Drink whisky.

(Roughly in that order!)

SOxon · 14/06/2024 00:29

I do 15 minutes of yoga in the morning, first thing after I get up. I made a playlist of some of Sarah Beth on YouTube's 15 minute yoga videos and I just choose one and do it. I always feel better afterwards.

Every morning I also eat a small handful of nuts, a piece of fruit and take my vitamins. It means whatever else happens during the day, even if it all goes to pot.... I've at least started my morning well with something beneficial for my health.

I have a really nice body lotion that smells amazing and I use that after every shower or bath. I still smell great hours later and it gives me a boost.

I agree with decent coffee, having a good book on the go, walking and doing puzzles.

GalacticalFarce · 14/06/2024 07:54

Coffee
Walk in the woods
Reading
Spending time with my family
Music

It's the simple things

Frostandfrogs · 14/06/2024 07:54

I am a natural early riser, and love that hour on my own to potter about. I do wordle, connections, tiles and the easy sudoku whilst drinking coffee. A wander outside to listen to birds, smell the fresh air. I also usually brush my floofy cat. I find a peaceful start to the day brings real contentment.
I am very lucky to have a DH who makes it his mission to make me properly belly laugh every day, too 💕

I also sing along to my playlists ( badly!) in the car.

ItsOnlyJustBegun · 14/06/2024 07:55

Quite a lot of the above plus regular meditation.

It makes me a calmer person who stops railing against the machine!

I’m also a fan of a good dance. 70s, Zumba, anything disco.
