Does anyone still starch bed linen? I havent met anyone in the UK who does? Was is norm in the olden days or is it something that never was very common? Just curious.

JiraffDeSaki I seem to remember that spray starch isn't too expensive (and doesn't go off).

I would start with some pillowcases (on the basis that they are small to wash if you are too trigger-happy).

Having just washed a load of sheets, only to discover that rain is expected for most of the afternoon, I might give it a go myself!

They shouldnt be stiff or scratchy. Perhaps she starched them too much? Or starched them and not ironed/pressed them?
But I understand its also a personal preference, thats fine ;)

Probably did starch them too much, then ironed them to perfection, till they walked onto the beds. Washday literally lasted ALL day in our house!

Why would someone want to sleep in fragnanced sheets, full of artificial chemicals? To breath that in all night?

Goodness you took that personally 😂

Our bedding is Egyptian cotton which wrinkles but even that doesn't need ironing. I wash it on a lower spin, and hang it out neatly on the washing line then fold it direct from the line so it stays crease free.

Personally? No. I was just using the same type of reply the PP had used.

@DiscoBeat This isnt a thread about ironing, or the lack of.

Well it's a thread about keeping bedding flat, and you just moaned about the chemicals in starch. A different viewpoint, perhaps.

I wandered down a rabbit hole, wondering what laundry starch was made from. It is easy to make your own apparently:
