Cat dental care quote £960 - is it typical?

My cat had her annual health check and vaccination at a Vets4Pets branch a few days ago. They said her two back teeth probably need to be extracted. The quote is £960. I'm going to phone some other vets today for comparison, but just wondering if it's typical and whether there are any tips for cheaper providers?

We're in SW London (Hampton) so nothing is cheap.

Around 9 years ago, it was about £700 to get most of our cat’s teeth removed. So, with inflation and time, I’d say that was probably correct.

We paid £500 for 6 teeth about 5 years ago.

My cat had 3 back teeth removed around a month ago, with blood work and x rays it came to £560. Not vets4pets and in the Midlands. Insurance also paid out for it so may be worth checking if you have insurance if it would cover the removals.

I paid about £6-700 at a small practice in Yorkshire about a year ago. Given that it's a big corporate with all the associated extra costs and an expensive area, it's probably what you should expect to pay.

Yes, check insurance. Only the most comprehensive policies tend to cover cat dental work, but we have been able to claim in the past. The cat who had the dental work has a very cheap policy that excludes dental work but is otherwise very good as his accident prone sister on the same policy proves.

8 years ago, around £450 for similar... pets aren't cheap.

Mine has had 2 teeth out in the last few weeks. Cost £500+.

Shop around first op. We were quoted similar from vets for pets a couple of years ago for three teeth. I rang a few other local vets and he eventually had his teeth removed by a smaller vets practise for 550.

I paid £250 for our old lady about seven years ago (will obviously have gone up), that included three teeth out, removal of some tartar and two follow up appointments (they apparently always did a follow up appointment, but as she was old with a heart murmur they included an extra appointment.

£620 for 11 teeth a fortnight ago (and for the remaining ones to be cleaned). Medivet practice in Lancashire.
