How much does a tattoo hurt?

I want a tattoo a little nervous about it due to my low pain tolerance!

Anyone know the best place on the body that's the least painful?

I'm literally covered in tattoos, lost count of how many but it's over 50. Least painful was upper outer arms. Most painful was fingers, especially going onto the sides. Far more painful than any tattoo is laser removal.

It really depends on the person and the placement. The back of my right calf was horrendous from the moment it started to when it ended. All my others are on my lower left arm and above my ankle and they weren't too bad.
Some have one side more painful than the other. Mine could be my right side. I won't know until I get another on that side.

It tends to be the bony bits that hurt more. Although I've always found it's more that they sort of vibrate in an annoying twitchy way so you feel it all down the bone instead of just in one place.

How good the artist is and how "rough" they are makes a difference.

If you are considering numbing cream speak to your artist first to check they are ok with it. The pain is really not that bad though, it can be uncomfortable but it's certainly not "want to cry" sort of pain or at least not in any of the numerous places I've been tattooed.

Go get a kitchen knife and drag the tip over your arm, but not deep enough to break the skin.

That's the level of pain - fairly low
