How long for antibiotics to work?

Went to the GP yesterday with a temp of nearly 40c and a sore throat, couldn't stop shivering
Tonsillitis (I get it fairly regularly but haven't had it for 2 years and this is one of the worst I've been with it)
Started antibiotics yesterday, woke up to bedding and pjs soaked through with sweat and my throat is now covered in pus and getting worse by the hour
Temp is down to 38.5 with paracetamol taken all day

Last time penicillin didn't work and I'm a bit worried that it won't this time and how long to give it (clarithromycin I needed last time)

I've had medical attention today? She did my pulse, blood pressure, temperature, felt my neck and looked at my throat and then listened to my chest before asking about my last infection

She noted in 2022 I had the same issue where penicillin didn't work and I went back and was prescribed a different antibiotic
She also said strep throat is about but as mine are so pus covered it doesn't appear to be that and advised if if doesn't start clearing 48hrs into these I need to go back

No, it's not usually that fast as I exercise a lot, she said it was high due to the infection and my temperature was still up

Proof of antibiotics because I feel like I'm being quizzed I think that's everything she said
