Taylor Swifts new album, your thoughts?

I downloaded it but have deleted it. Interested to hear the tracks that standout for you. I got about six tracks in but it just didn’t appeal. This isn’t a TS bashing thread as I like her music just disappointed that this album isn’t more poppy.

I live with an extreme Swifty.

She is still listening, immersing, and thinking about the new material.

I like So Long London so far and a few others dd has played me. I end up loving her albums but only if I listen a few times.

mountaingoatsarehairy · 23/04/2024 20:20

Oh yeah all her songs are growers so you just listen loads and then you see the genius.

having said that - not sure about ‘Peter’.

TS is the only person whose songs that I wake up and they are in my head - I am 50 !

I am loving it. So Long London, The Manuscript, The Black Dog, The Smallest Man who ever lived and Florida are amongst my favourites, so far. I need to listen to it more, there’s a lot songs!

I had a rare day off on Friday so streamed it all while doing other things and my first thoughts were that it was a bit blah and samey. I’ve dipped in and out since and it’s a real grower. There are several I can’t get out of my head, and I’m looking forward to a day this week where I have a long drive and can listen to it all again. I think releasing much material all at once maybe was a mistake, the super fans clearly loved it but it was a bit overwhelming. I’m hoping she goes with a new producer next time, I’d like to see her try something different. Im seeing her in August with dd and I’m so excited for it.

I really like it and wouldn’t describe myself as a super fan. It is a lot of songs to get to grips with but some of my favourite artists have released albums with 30 or more songs on recently, so I’m getting used to it. 🤣

There is a long thread already on here if you want to join in.

I wasn't a fan at first but the more I listen to it and delve into it the more I enjoy it. Her songs are so multilayered half the fun is in analysing it like a Carol Ann Duffy poem in GCSE English.

I think the clue was in the aesthetic and title though that this wasn't going to be a pop album. It's very much two fingers up to the pedestal artists and creatives are put up on and the pressure they are under with every Tom, Dick and Harry thinking they have a say in their lives.

ProfessionalTeaDrinker · 23/04/2024 20:54

I really like it and can't get some tracks out of my head. It's definitely going to be one that grows and grows on me, evermore and folklore were the same for me and those are my two favourites now

DarkDarkNight · 23/04/2024 20:55

I adore it. I feel like it is quite something that out of 31 songs there are only a few I’m not keen on (yet I have to stress!). I know the words, the Melodies, as one song ends I am already humming the next.

Imgonnagetyouback and So High School while catchy aren’t my favourite. I’m not too bothered about I Hate It Here or Robin.

Loves at the minute are The Black Dog, Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus, The Bolter, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, Guilty As Sin? The run of the first 4 or 5 songs is strong. Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me? Is fantastic. It’s everything I was hoping it would be.

It feels melancholic in the best way and reminds me of LDR.

W0rkerBee · 23/04/2024 20:56

Im listening now. I'm not as instantly in love as I have been before. Too many songs??? Her last album, I could hardly function I was so obsessed!

DarkDarkNight · 23/04/2024 20:56

How Did It End? s currently stuck in my head, taking over from Down Bad which has been stuck in my head all day.

Allshallbewell2021 · 23/04/2024 20:57

Professor, I love those albums.
The Swifty who I live with analyses all the lyrics, tells me what she thinks the songs are about, what the fans are saying, generally how TS is a genius etc etc
But she is still immersing herself in this new rush of material and won't talk about anything else 😍❤️😍

Allshallbewell2021 · 23/04/2024 21:00

Also the Fortnight video with Post Malone is great with the Ethan Hawke cameo and the other guy from Dead Poets Society.
I love the phone box shot.
My Swifty says TS and Post Malone have "amazing chemistry" 😍

Allshallbewell2021 · 23/04/2024 21:00

Thanks OldHabits x

mcdonaldschip · 23/04/2024 21:07

I love it! Most songs took a few listens to like. It's definitely an album that grows on you. It's also perfect to fall asleep to as most songs are so calm sounding

My favourites are Fortnight, Guilty as Sin?, Fresh Out The Slammer and TTPD (the song).

I hated Down Bad at first but it has really grown on me!

I love Post Malone.

I listened to it twice now, some songs three times and it's like.... this is what people who never listened to her music thought she produced. Lots of songs that are all pleasant but similar. This is not a small patch on anything she has done before. :-/

Already looking forward to the next album. Less might be more.

CandiedPrincess · 25/04/2024 08:33

I am a die-hard Swiftie but it's taking some effort for me to get into this. It's quite hard going and deep and a bit depressing in places, and that's not how I like my music. Saying that favourites so far are Fortnite, ICDIWABH, The Bolter, loml, How Did It Again, Peter...

londoner72 · 25/04/2024 08:43

I love thank you Aimee

Beamur · 25/04/2024 08:46

I have a fan in my house but DD is not vibing with the new album and is finding the lyrics a bit cringe and lacking in subtlety.
