I'm an Exhausted Nana

I'll start by saying I know how lucky I am to be a mum and Nana. I have my 18 month old grandchild once a week for the full day.
He's a lovely little lad but OMG I'm exhausted. He's relentlessly busy, full of energy and the tantrums are just starting.
How do all you grandparents cope???? How did I manage to survive bringing 2 up myself??

I hear you!!!
It's full on!!

We don't do it all...we are mid 60s. Dh works full time in a physically demanding job, I do part time casually.
We are far too busy.

This ! I had my children when I was 30 . I have my grandchild overnight and love her to bits but it’s so tiring,am now 30 years older!”

I feel you. Have to have a quiet day and an early night after sleepovers 😄
He’s a joy and brings so much love and laughter into our lives. We love spending time with him and his parents. Having him alone though and being in charge, it’s taxing.

You can say no. I wouldn't be keen myself in your situation, and I am only a couple of years younger.

It should be the case that a grandparent offering childcare is doing it of their own free will, not because of expectations that they will.

And that’s what OP ( and myself are doing) ….we are allowed to say how bloody knackering it is though🙄

Lentilweaver · 11/04/2024 18:52

Of course you are. I just think perhaps OP could do half a day, as her day job is knackering too.
