Has anyone changed their driving licence back to maiden name without getting divorced?

When I got married I changed the name on my driving licence to be double-barrelled (very easy to do). I then decided I really don’t like it and went back to using my maiden name.

I tried to get my driving licence changed back to my maiden name, using my passport as proof of identity (it was still in my maiden name). But they returned it saying I had to prove my previous name (the double barrelled name). Does anyone know if my marriage certificate will be proof of my married name? I didn’t change my name on anything else.

Has anyone done this successfully?

Surely legally your drivers licence has to be the same name as everything else, so presumably you mean you changed your surname to be double barrelled when you got married and not just on your driving licence. Marriage certificate should be proof of name change and maybe add in what ever other documentation you have of changing your name back (presuming you've done this)

My driving licence and passport are double barrelled but everything else - bank details, bills etc are married name apart from one bank account and one credit card. No one has ever queried. I just have to make sure I book holidays as double barrelled, as airline tickets must be the same as passport. Have just started using double barrelled at work and they didn't ask for any proof.

Your marriage certificate isn’t proof of name change because you don’t have to. When I divorced my solicitor said you don’t need to do any paperwork to revert to your maiden name. It’s always yours.

but in this case, I think your marriage certificate should be enough to prove where the other surname came from. Good luck

What’s on your passport? That’s perfectly acceptable proof
